Earth Mama

Joyce Rouse is a singer, songwriter, actor, educator and creator of the Earth Mama® music projects. Growing up on a farm in Iowa continues to influence her artistic, spiritual and eco choices. Her songs are heard world-wide through broadcast media, and on her recordings now playing on six continents.

She holds a degree in Home Economics Education from Iowa State University, and an M.A. degree in Earth Literacy from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Indiana. For many years Joyce lived in Nashville, TN and worked in the music industry, until she felt the leading of creating music for an eco-spirituality ministry. She has just released her 10th CD of original music.

Her songs have been used extensively in educational venues and by international environmental and peace organizations such as the United Nations, UNESCO, and International Earth Charter, as well as The Smithsonian Institute.

In August, 1995 the United States celebrated the 75th anniversary of the 19th amendment  which granted  women the right to vote. Joyce wrote and performed the theme song, Standing on the Shoulders, premiering at official events in Washington, D.C.  This song has introduced Joyce to the gracious wisdom and power of Women Religious around the world.

She lives with her husband, Richard, in Virginia where she is involved in a variety of community organizations for growing local foods and local economy.

To encourage the growth of all eco music, she volunteers for the world’s first 24 hour internet eco radio station at and serves currently as president of Musicians United to Sustain the Environment, the station’s founding organization.

Joyce continues to write songs, perform and teach. Her goal is: “Helping Heal the Planet One Song at a Time.”  Please join her in raising voices in song for Peace, Justice and Earth Care!
