Estelle Deschamps

Biography Estelle Deschamps –Bilingual singer/songwriter
Estelle was born October 1st 1961, the eldest of a family of four children. Her formative years were spent growing up in the small North-Ontarian community of Cochrane: where she still lives today. Almost as early as she can remember, Estelle knew singing was her passion. She sang and danced to music at every opportunity and as she grew up imagining herself performing to an audience. Coming out from behind the living room curtains, with hairbrush in hand as a microphone, she sang her heart out. She did this from an imaginary stage and sang to enthusiastic but also imaginary audience with all the professionalism of a true performer. Her record player, cassette recorder and small keyboard organ were constant companions. Her heart felt passion was something she needed to express on an almost daily basis: A Northern girl with a big passion for music and a drive to put her voice out there.
To understand this burning interest in music and singing one has only to look to Estelle’s early influences. Some of her fondest memories, for instance, revolve around listening to her mother play the guitar and sing. This was a common occurrence in the household and at family gatherings. In fact, Estelle cites her mother as her biggest influence in term of her love for music and singing.
Estelle’s dream of wanting someday to perform for an audience were put on hold temporarily when she married the love of her life and teenage sweetheart, Jacques Deschamps on August 22nd 1980. Life was very joyful and things got very busy with the arrival of their three beautiful children: Eric, Sylvain and Annie. The couple worked together at creating a loving home and raising three, now grown children. Jacques and Estelle were a great team then and are still a great team today as he is one of her greatest supporter. The couple has been together over 30 years. And most recently, more blessings have come Estelle’s way with the arrival of her first grandchild: when Estelle’s daughter Annie gave birth on January 24th 2012, to a beautiful baby boy that Annie and her husband Joey named, Joseph.
Despite her busy and joy filled family life, Estelle’s passion about singing and performing for an audience never left her and she knew intuitively that someday the opportunity would present itself. During that period, she recognized that her life consisted of several chapters and held to the hope that there would be one up and coming for the music itself.
And so it was that in 1999 Estelle started performing in public as a Karaoke Hostess. Slowly thereafter, she began welcoming greater opportunities to sing in public. She also slowly began writing her own songs. By 2010 she had her first five piece Rock band called “Hooked”. The band stayed together for 2 years and Estelle was enriched by the experience of collaborating with what she refers to as “phenomenal musicians”. When the group disbanded, Estelle continued to work with guitarist/composer John Lemieux, one of the former band members. Since 2010 she and John have entertained at all type of venues and events: cabarets, festivals, concerts, fundraising events, weddings, private parties, etc.
Estelle speaks fondly of all the opportunities she had done as a performer. Some of her favourite highlights, when she was asked to be the opening act for Joe Meloche in 2005, Julian Austin in 2008 and the group Sens in 2010.
And finally, in April 2013, one of Estelle’s biggest dreams came true when she recorded her first album entitled “Battle of Emotions” by Estelle Deschamps, in Nashville Tennessee. This is a compilation of original songs mostly written by Estelle. She is very proud of the accomplishments she has achieved in relatively short period of time and believes wholeheartedly that singing performances will likely remain a constant in her life.
