Ginger Ackley

Ginger Ackley is a Texas native now living in Ohio. She's taken her life-long passion for music and combined it with a love of history and tradition, and melded into a delightful style of Celtic Folk! Performing both traditional and contemporary songs as she plays her autoharp and whistles, she is also a songwriter “in the old style” according to Andy M. Stewart of “Silly Wizard.”

Ginger and her assorted musical instruments have traveled to the blue Caribbean, the glaciers of Alaska and her heart's home, Ireland. She has performed at faires and festivals, including Hawkwood, Excalibur Faire, and Scarlet's Mid-Winter Festival, Ravenwood, and the Celtic Nations Heritage Festival in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

She has shared the stage with Red MacWilliams, jammed with Aoife Clancy, Jimmy Crowley, Jeb Marum, the Brobdinagian Bards, the Heritage Minstrels and the Bedlam Bards. A regular at Renaissance Faires, her friends gifted her with a special name, “Lark of the Clans.” Wherever she goes, there is usually a large bag full of shakers, singing sticks, and various noise makers so that everyone has a chance to participate in her performances!

Her song. “It Is Time” was the winner of a song writing contest judged by Danny O'Flaherty, Aoife Clancy and Andy M. Stewart – three icons of Celtic Music. That led to collaboration with Danny on his “Secret Garden” CD, released in 2007. Ginger wrote two of the songs on that album, including the title track, and co-wrote the lyrics on a third song.

“All Earth's Children” is the culmination of a project encouraged by O'Flaherty to help teach children about their World and how to care for it. The music and songs are the accompaniment to a program Ginger has written to present to children and adults, too. She is also working on a CD of original and traditional songs, including “It Is Time.”

Ginger can be seen at open mic stages and music festivals in the Northeastern Ohio area. She is a member of the Canton Folksong Society and Folknet.
