Glenn Yoder & the Western States

After five years on the road as the frontman of the raucous collective known as Cassavettes -- sharing bills with the Allman Brothers, Kings of Leon, Dr. Dog, and others -- Glenn Yoder has found his fit. A string of albums, starting with 2009's "Okono Road" and culminating in 2015's critically acclaimed "Blood Red Moon," saw Yoder dig deeper into the roots-rock, dirty blues and whatever other styles appeal to a songwriter at any given time, drawing praise from The Boston Globe, No Depression, and other outlets.

Along the way, he picked up a top-notch band, The Western States, and played with The Old 97s, Shooter Jennings, and more. The group's sound has drawn comparisons to everyone from Paul Westerberg to The Jayhawks to Morphine to perhaps two of their biggest influences, Tom Petty and Neil Young.

Glenn Yoder & The Western States' new album, "Inherited Darkness" (released May 2017), sort of sounds like Band of Horses, Jason Isbell and Dawes teamed up to cover Wilco -- only if Wilco had spent their career aspiring to write ZZ Top's "Tres Hombres." Does that make sense? There's only one way to find out.
