Hank and Claire

Stories – yours, mine, ours – sung in harmony. Hank and Claire beautifully arrange traditional and popular folk songs from John Prine, Tom Paxton, Chuck Pyle, Lou and Peter Berryman, and many others. Wonderful original songs round out their enjoyable blending of voices, guitars, dulcimer, and bowed psaltery. Enjoy sweet harmonies, a bit of sentiment, some fun, and a big dose of heart? You'll love Hank and Claire.

Duet singing is a lot like life – it’s important to engage your whole self, make sure you are in tune, and leave enough time and space for anything that might happen unexpectedly. In the case of Hank Payne and Claire Favro, they happened unexpectedly in 2008. Now based in Poulsbo WA, they take their voices and guitars, psalteries, banjo and dulcimer out to play in all sorts of venues: house concerts, festivals, bookstores. Interpreting a contemporary or standard song, digging into traditional or composed mountain music, or sharing Hank’s original tunes, they celebrate the legacy of live acoustic music making. Good stories, rich harmonies. Hoping you feel it—in the heart, in the funny bone, or in the memory of who you are and where you came from.

“Guitars, psaltery, and dulcimer back the lovely lead and harmonizing voices. All clean, clear, and full of life—just like when you see them in person.” -Chris Lunn, founding member International Folk Alliance, talking about our CD "Home at Last."

“This is duet music at its very best!" -Bob Nelson, Pacific Northwest folksinger, archivist, and co-founder of Pacific Northwest Folklore Society
