Hungry Suns: Time is Lost
A sonic trip from Top End Australia and beyond

Hungry Suns have their beginnings in Melbourne’s northern suburbs and released their debut 2009 album ‘I hang from the branch of a gravity tree’. Recorded at a farm in Deniliquin using mobile studio equipment, it was full of storytelling in an atmospheric power rock trio format.
With the percussion section leaving for Darwin on a 5 year jaunt, the gigs became rarer but the studio work continued with fresh inspiration culminating in recordings of improvisations and carefully arranged pieces at the newly established Sunshine Recorder Studios (
New album ‘Time is Lost’ (2014) (www.cdbaby) focuses more on the ambient soundscaping side of the band with key tracks showcasing the integration of wave drum beats and effects, dramatic and spacious guitar sounds and muscular bass lines to create a virtuosic performance of imaginative soundscapes.
The opening track ‘Gone Troppo’ impresses with its tightly arranged funky groove providing the bedrock for an array of delirious guitar riffs and melodic lines. Other key moments are the Talking Heads song ‘Listening Wind’ which gets the epic treatment of lengthy spacious interludes punctuated by power chord driven choruses and ‘The Wet Season’, which soaks the listener in soaring e-bow guitar and a wah-wah bass dialogue with the chattering drum kit/wavedrum simulating the tension and release of an electrical storm. The title track is a meld of old school progrock psychedelia with punchy and dynamic twists underscoring poetic ruminations.

A bonus tracks section of improvisations explore a range of moods that could help carry many a film script to endless stretches of searching intensity, ambiguity and mystery.
