Isabel Taylor

Isabel Taylor is a performing singer-songwriter whose foundation in 60s and 70s acoustic folk music informs her musical style and songwriting. A native of Buffalo, NY, singing has been a passion of hers since childhood, and songwriting has become a way of expressing her views on life and love. Her songs are personal, yet universal and relatable — she delivers them with a clear, expressive voice. Her debut album, Awake Again -- produced by award-winning musician Jon Shain -- reached number 15 on the Folk DJ chart in January 2017.

Erik Balkey (artist rep and promoter to folk radio), of Hudson Harding Music describes Taylor’s debut as “…A new voice that is confident and pure and original songs that are assured and authentically delivered. Disarming and vulnerable like a Nanci Griffith, seasoned and rich like a Mary Chapin Carpenter….”

Taylor is working on her second release, due out in spring 2019.

Based in Pittsboro, NC, Taylor began singing at local open mics in 2010, accompanying herself on guitar, fulfilling a lifelong dream to perform. Within a couple of years, she was playing her own shows. Taylor’s early sets included lesser-known songs by Neil Young, Nanci Griffith, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, and many other folk icons, and it wasn’t long before she got involved with the North Carolina Songwriters Co-op and took up songwriting.

“Though I began by covering songs by artists that I felt were ‘hidden gems,’ I find that writing songs is even more fulfilling. There is nothing like singing an original song and experiencing the audience’s connection to it.”

In May 2018, Taylor was featured on local NPR station WUNC’s program, The State of Things. She has opened for David Wilcox (private event), and toured with fellow songwriters in the mid-Atlantic. She performs frequently in the [NC] Triangle and on the coast.

We were blown away by [Isabel’s] songs and their stories, and moved by the themes and word crafting, accompanied by her excellent guitar playing and striking vocals. -- Gary Heinze and Debbie Fox, patrons, Stillwaters Supper & Songs, Marshall, VA
