Jason Moon

Jason Moon, Milwaukee-based folk/rock musician and veteran and a Wisconsin Network for Peace & Justice “2009 Peacemaker of the Year”, was thrust from pre-deployment to war to bittersweet homecoming. He returned from the Iraq War in 2004 but for over five years songwriting was too dangerous for him to attempt, even though it had once been his greatest joy in life. Breaking the cycle of PTSD, depression, and self-medication, Jason began to volunteer for Never Homeless, Milwaukee’s Homeless Veterans Initiative ( After being interviewed in spring 2009 for the forthcoming documentary film On the Bridge, Jason Moon used the experience to re-energize himself as an artist, and recorded four songs that would become the heart of his recent album Trying to Find My Way Home. Through it he has found healing, and a portion of the sale of this album or any song on it will be donated to veteran’s charities.

Like any "thing", art has labels...artists gain labels and people follow their interests based on what is intertwined within these labeled categories. Now, having stated that, I hope you may understand that I cannot personally label Jason Moon, I will leave your perceptions to you. If I had to label it I would call it some of the most honest, lyrically driven Americana contemporary folk you’ll ever hear. When I hear any of Jason's work I'm reminded of me. The feelings he sings of I have felt. The various stories his songs tell I have been a part of. The love both lived and lost with all its uncertainties I have experienced. It's as if in his voice and his words and his melodies he has somehow reached inside of me, provoking the exact same emotions and managing to say for me what I was unable to say...including those I couldn't possibly imagine anyone else having. - David Nitka Jr. Poet

Jason Moon is a singer songwriter currently living in Milwaukee. Having just finished his Graduate degree in Religious Studies at Cardinal Stritch university, Jason is finally able to dedicate himself to making music once again. He began his musical career playing around campfires in his home town of Eagle River, WI. He began hosting open mic’s in the Fox Valley while attending UW Oshkosh. In 1996 he released his debut album “Naked Under All These Clothes”. He played in the fox valley until 2003 when his National Guard unit was activated and sent to Iraq where he performed regularly for the troops. After he returned from war in 2004 Jason retreated, put down his pen, stopped writing songs, and played very few shows. He put his efforts in to school and veterans work. In 2009 Jason was named a “Peace Maker of The Year” by Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice. After six years of silence he now returns to the music scene more alive than ever before. With a new film project and CD on the way, the best is surely yet to come. Jason has performed as the following acts: The North Country Ramblers, Moon & Thacia, Jason Moon, Drivin' Wheel, Moon & Lipsky, The Deep Bellum Revival Band, The Great Garbonzo’s, Every Day Toast, The Paste Eating Elmers, and Moon n’ Schultzy.
