Jay Butler

‘Awesome songs – you can tell he loves to play’

Acoustic-rocker Jay Butler gives audiences an energy and edge they wouldn’t normally expect from a solo singer/guitar player. Jay’s songs reflect a range of Influences, from early-90s Springsteen to alt rock icons Goo Goo Dolls – they’re catchy and melodic without losing a bit of rock bite. Lyrically, his music wears its heart on its sleeve, and he leans towards an old-school, raw style of production. “When I write, my rule is that if a song doesn’t work with just an acoustic guitar,’ Jay says, ‘it doesn’t work at all”.

Jay’s career began in 2011 when he landed a spot opening for a local band, and he was soon playing regularly in various bars, pubs and clubs, working his way up to gigs at local festivals and renowned Surrey music venue The Boileroom. Local radio play followed, and his performance in a national talent competition led to him recording his debut EP ‘No Turning Back’ in 2013.

Branching out to London saw Jay gain more live experience, including playing the legendary music venue The Troubadour. His YouTube videos have attracted over 100,000 views and he has a Facebook following of over 2,500 fans.

Jay is now independently writing, recording and producing his own songs from his studio in Surrey, releasing projects as a CD Baby Artist. Partial deafness as a result of surgery at the beginning of 2018 didn’t slow him down, with his latest release ‘This One’s For You’ recorded and released later that same year.
