Karibow was founded by Oliver Rüsing in late 1996. Over the years, various CD productions have documented a long musical development somewhere between Progressive Rock, Electronic Music and AOR that was eventually rewarded with the German Rock & Pop Award for "Man Of Rust" in December 2011.
Once starting as a studio project, Karibow have more and more become a live band.
In December 2014, Karibow had the privilege to be honoured with the German Rock & Pop Award again, this time as "Best Progressive Band 2014".
Karibow's actual live lineup consists of Oliver Rüsing (vocals, guitars), Chris Thomas (guitars), Markus Bergen (keyboards), Gerald Nahrgang (drums/percussion) and Thomas Wischt (bass).

In the 90's, Oliver had played with musicians and bands like Last Turion, Counterparts, Chinook, Maquis, M.C. West, the Canadian Swell Guys and many more, working as a live drummer, drum teacher and studio musician in Europe and North America.
Therefore, different musical styles have influenced Karibow's music over the years, but there has always been a strong impact of electronic and progressive elements which are evident on the albums "Shush" [1997], "Supernatural Foe" [1998] and "Three Times Deeper" [1999].
However, Karibow's music went back to the early roots between 2000 and 2003. "Tribal Avenue", recorded in 2001, therefore became a mainstream rock album.
Between 2003 and 2005, Karibow recorded the soundtrack for the "Ayganyan Project One" movie, but in 2007, Karibow's progressive past finally showed up again on the concept album "A History of Inorganic Talk". Three and a half years later, "Man Of Rust" achieved the German Rock & Pop Award in the "Best Arrangement" category in 2011.
Karibow's latest album "Addicted" was released in November 2014, just a month before they were honored as "Best Progressive Band 2014". Nevertheless, AOR and Melodic Rock are still playing an important role in Karibow's approach to Neo-Progressive Rock.
