Kate Linke

“There’s red dirt in my veins”

Emerging from the red dirt and dusty paddocks she calls home, is the young and talented singer/songwriter Kate Linke. Growing up in remote Western Australia gives you a “boots ‘n’ all” perspective on life and the land and it’s no surprise to find that Kate’s catchy and melodic songs capture the heart and imagination of storytelling and her time spent growing up in this unique part of Australia.

After winning the ABC’s ‘Heywire’ competition in 2001, Kate embarked on a journey that would see her performing regularly at the Moora Country Campout, in 2005 she landed a nomination in the top three finials in the West Australian Country Music awards for Best Country Female Artist, and in 2006 in the top five finalist in the Regional Song Of The Year. Between trips to the Tamworth Country Music Festival and the Gympie Talent Search, to studying for her certificate in music business, she was writing songs and putting them down on demo’s with songwriter and producer Roger Corbett.

It was not until 2008 that Kate decided she had enough original material for an album, -a repertoire that explored stories and experiences. With co-writer and producer Roger Corbett at the helm, the album ‘Red Dirt’ materialised. With songs like, ‘Just Another Weekend In The Bush’ and ‘No Biscuits In The Tin’ and a great tribute to her Dad in ‘That’s My Dad’, the album ‘Red Dirt’ is the real Australian country deal. With strong Australian influences like John Williamson and Kasey Chambers, Kate writes and sings in her own ‘Australian voice’ – it’s a language and sound that she relates to the most, and one that she hopes other Australian’s will also .
