Luis Gabriel Aguilera

Born in Mexico (but having lived most of his life in Chicago), Luis Gabriel Aguilera is a creature of multifaceted creative output. He is an author, writer, DJ, electronic music producer, music events promoter, social justice activist, overall visionary and the result of cultures being mashed up within the individual with openness and care.

In the spring of 2000, Luis’ memoir, "Gabriel’s Fire", was published at the The University of Chicago Press, five years after his graduation from the school bearing the same name. "Gabriel’s Fire", is a raw, energetic, and graceful personal account of his immigrant urban youth experience. It is coupled with underlying transcendent themes steered by subtle, yet dynamic, dialogue. The voices in the work do not go missed. And neither does the poetic journey of young Aguilera.

Today, Luis employs his writing skills to focus a ray or two of sunlight on corruption in public education, providing insight from his experiences as a former Chicago Public Schools teacher with a masters degree in teaching and the research he conducts on said subject
.
As a DJ, Luis decided to circumvent the petty Chicago music industry politics that he first witnessed in the mid 1980s as a teen and member of a South Side "party crew" in the Windy City for more auspicious settings. Drawn in by the 1990s rave culture, Luis played the rave circuit between 1997-2001, enjoying gigs across the Midwestern States, which led him to being invited to perform in Toronto, Mexico City and Costa Rica, as both a happy hardcore and techno DJ artist whilst promoting his Chicago events. By 2001, Luis took the next step to produce the music he heard in his heart and soul. Luis today manages his Full Spectrum digi label where he showcases experimental/ambient/minimal electronica and techno.

Holding a DJ residency at an uber cool bar in Chicago, Luis presents his monthly themed events that not only provide outlets for his eclectic musical tastes but also a space for other local talent, paying it forward, because whatever Aguilera is and has become, he knows full well that the impressions have come from so many others as well.
