Mara Bettencourt

Mara Sofia Da Rocha Bettencourt is a Multilingual Singer-Songwriter with a versatile voice and an unique style. She is considered to be a romantic, emotional, and inspirational vocalist. Growing up in an artistic family, Mara's inherent talent began to flourish at the age of 2, when she sang her first song: Stevie Wonder's: "I just called to say I love you", impressing her family and friends and setting her on a lifelong musical journey.

Mara credits her father Lucio Bettencourt, a music lover and artist, creator of: Arte Da Terra Do Mar, as her inspiration. Her early introduction to the performing arts was followed by group and solo performances for special occasions in her home island Terceira, in the Azores, Portugal. She started writing songs at the age of 15 as she spent much of her younger years living and travelling to the U.S.A.

Joining a youth gospel group in 1998, she began to explore her passion for vocal improvisation.

Her multi-cultural background has instilled in her a love for linguistics and she writes and sings songs in a variety of languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian.

Mara has released a cd of originals in 2014: " Eclectic Soul", a collection of original ballads composed of different emotions, rhythms, sounds, and experiences that have shaped Mara's life. The use of metaphors, nature sounds, different languages and spiritual connotations is very characteristic of her style and it is noticeable throughout the compilation.

A versatile vocalist, Mara performs not only as a soloist, but also collaborates with other musicians in a variety of venues. She owns and operates: Bettencourt Music Studio in Beverly, where she offers several personalized music programs.
Mara is currently working on a new music project to be released at the end of 2015.
