Marco Antonio da Costa – Guitarrist, Composer, Arranger, Pianist, Singer
Marco Antônio da Costa was born in Natal - Brazil. He began playing piano at the age of 5 and studied classical piano until he was 13 years old, then he met the guitar and started to dedicate to this instrument. Since 13 years old he started to do musical works in Natal, his home city. At the age of 17, he began studying electric guitar with Joca Costa and Manoca Barreto, two renowned and recognized guitarists from Natal.
He studied Brazilian-Jazz Guitar at the UFRN´s Music School and Jazz-Brazilian piano as weel, played in several Jazz festivals around all Brazil, like the “Cascavel Jazz Festival” in Cascavel – Paraná (PR), Papary Jazz Festival in Rio Grande do Norte (RN) and many others. Around the country, took music leeson with some of the finest Brazilian musicians as: Lula Galvão(guitar), Nelson Faria(guitar), Alexandre Carvalho(guitar), Fernando Correa(Guitar), jarbas Barbosa (guitar), Vitor Santos (Arranging), Daniel Maudonnet ( Piano and Arranging), Rafael dos Santos (Piano and Arranging), Waldemar Ernesto (Piano).
In 2005 he lived in Sao Paulo - Brazil to study music at the College Souza Lima & Berklee. At the end of this year (2005) he won a scholarship at Berklee College of Music in Boston - USA, but he not attended the call. Back to his homeland, he decided to finish the Journalism course at UFRN and then keep playing. In Natal (RN), he has been very active in the musical scene playing several gigs, from small pubs until cruise ships, with various groups and singers from different styles (Antonio de Pádua, Liz Rosa, Rosana, Erick Von Sohten, Simona Talma, Diana Cravo, among others).
In 2008 went on Japan Tour with the project “Diogo Guanabara & Macaxeira Jazz” On their way back to Brazil, the group toured in Holland. In the year 2009 the group toured again between Austria, Slovenia, Italy and Holland.
Since 2008 Marco Antônio da Costa moved to Graz - Austria to study Jazz at Kunstuniversität Graz. He lives in Graz but he often traveled to play Jazz, Pop, and Brazilian Popular Music in Austria, Belgium, Holland, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and Germany. In Graz he met the Slovenian singer Zvezdana Novakovic and kept a productive musical partnership with the group “Olala”. The first recording album from Marco Antonio da Costa called “Painel”was released in May 2010 with own compositions and arrangments. In November 2010 he arranged and co-composed in the new album from the Jazz and Tango singer “Katja Cruz”- Mi Corazon. Trhoughout the whole year 2011, he has been invited to play, with his project and with different artistist, in several Music Festivals around Europe and Japan. He played on tours in Japan, Slovenia, Austria, Germany and Italy. 2012 is going to be an exciting year for Marco Antonio da Costa, he is planning to record his next CD project and In july 2012 he will be graduated in the Künstuniversität Graz, artistic program.
