Nia Robertson

Nia Robertson grew up on a dairy farm in country Tasmania with country music loving parents on a healthy diet of all the Slims (Dusty, Whitman and Newton), Tammy, Dolly, and she was singing as soon as she could talk. During her school years in Hobart, she played the flute, was a member of the choir and later enjoyed musical theatre.

Nia spent the 80s embracing the healthy live music scene and fronted an original rock band. The big move to Sydney and a marriage in 1990 was followed by a move to Adelaide before finally settling in Melbourne. After the marriage break-up and serious health complications during the birth of her son, Nia realised she needed to return to music more than ever and started to write new material as a form of therapy. Returning to her country roots Nia began working on what would become her debut album, “Middle Of Blue”, released in June 2010.

In 2011 Nia attended her first Tamworth Country Music Festival where she was awarded the title of Most Popular Rising Star at the Meet ‘n’ Greet Country Awards. The festival had been a must-do but only after releasing her debut album did she feel it was the right time head to Tamworth.

Returning to the festival this year, the Melbourne-based artist will release her 2nd album, “The Woman I Am” on Friday January 25th. The latest offering features nine brand new self-penned tracks and two surprise covers. Produced locally by her partner, William McMartin of Beyond Therapy Productions, this collection of self-penned songs are all very personal accounts of her life or of those closest to her.

First single, ‘Sleeping With The TV On’ was released to radio in December 2012 via CRS #162, is a narrative of sleepless nights and loneliness, something Nia knows first-hand after spending 10 years as a single mother.
