Nori y Los Hermanos

Nori Ogawa is very talented jazz pianist from Japan, starts his group Nori y Los Hermanos (in Spanish means Nori and his brothers) in 2007. Nori has started his group with Ludwig Nunez (ex.bamboleo: cuban popular group) so sounds oriented for cuban salsa music, but traditional latin jazz style as well.
Now Nori is traveling from Japan because of big earthquake, and is staying Mexico and Cuba for production of his new CD and DVD works.

His group Nori y Los Hermanos is a typical piano trio (piano, bass and drums) but sounds like a salsa big band orchestra, and it could be dansable with Cuban Salsa style so very agressive.

Nori has started his international career at Havana International Jazz Festival in 2009 and he made position of specialist of Cuban Jazz. Now he got popular of his concept of his music (fusion of classic music and latin music) in Havana Cuba specially. His concept of music is very well accepted in Cuban music scene so, Jorge Gomez (famous Cuban music director for 40 years in Cuba) writs recomendation like below.

By Jorge Gomez (director of MONCADA)
Nori is like a Cuban musician, although he looks like a Chinese people (here in Cuba we call Asian as Chinese), for his piano Nori is more than one of the best of Cuban pianist.

From his last album "Primavera que Viene" with their searches in music world deeply like theme "Armando's Rumba of Chick Corea", "Mambo Influeciado of Chucho Valdes", "Maria Cervantes" and "Ballada Para Yanet", it would be difficult to follow with this letter to said of his music: this music is a fusion of timba salsa and latin jazz, but there is something better in this CD.

Now he recorded in Cuba his new art work "Hecho en CUBA" is produced with various musicians. Beyond La Comparsa of Lecuona(Cuban traditional theme), is same "Fusion" nothing less than theme of Chopin, Debussy, Mozart and Bach. I would like to say this "Fusion" is also could be said "gifted", in this point.

If you listen his disc, never imagine a Japanese pianist playing. If you see him from back side, I think like moving Cuban boy age of Jo-Jazz (Cuban youth Jazz Festival), if can not see his slit eyes (Ah, the eternal youth of Asians!). But that's Nori, as is known in Cuba ... without last name.
Hopefully next year. Something new will bring are your always friendly smile.
