Norman Kelsey

Norman Kelsey is a singer-songwriter from Cleveland, OH, who has spent the last 20-plus years in North Hollywood, CA.

Norman grew up on a steady diet of The Beatles, Bee Gees, and Michael Jackson. He draws comparisons to Lenny Kravitz, Smokey Robinson, Prince and Barry Gibb. His other major influences include David Bowie, Mick Jagger and Marvin Gaye. Norman's goal with each album is to create a record with flavors from back in the day when Top 40 radio spun pop, rock, disco and soul back-to-back.

For Valentine's Day 2019, Norman shot a video for the popular track "When I Say I Love You" off of the Sun Rose EP.

In August 2018, he dropped the single "Sun Rose" featured on the EP of the same title. It was produced at Karma Frog by Adam Marsland and is highlighted by the soulful guitar stylings of Jason Berk. This track is destined to be on your favorite motivational songs playlist.

After a health-related sabbatical, 2015 saw him collaborate with Adam Marsland and Teresa Cowles under the banner of Pacific Soul Ltd. The trio recorded and subsequently toured the UK in May, 2015. Their EP featured several well-received tracks including "Blue Summertime."

On 10/2/12, he released On The Rebound, the follow-up to his solo debut A Talent For Loving, an album filled with brass-laden soul-pop tunes and heart-stopping ballads. Norman supported the CD with full band performances and intimate acoustic sets in select markets. His live band, the Inimitables, featured Adam Marsland (keyboard); Evie Sands (guitar); Teresa Cowles (bass) and Kevin Jarvis (drums).

The second single from On The Rebound, "Huckleberry Finn," dropped on July 30, 2013. It was accompanied by an official music video directed by Andrew Shuford. The song is about Norman's own personal artistic journey; tinged with a rootsy 70's R&B vibe. Promotion for the single and the album were delayed by a medical condition.

Norman, a proud voting member of the recording academy (NARAS), publishes his music through his own company, Mighty Ohio Music (BMI). He is married and owns a feisty dog.

Norman recorded his second solo LP, On The Rebound, at Karma Frog studios in Reseda, CA with producer Adam Marsland. The album features ten original songs that continue the musical journey of his first record drawing inspiration from Mark Twain and the Gilded Age to the Dawn of Disco. Norman worked with an assortment of acclaimed musicians, including drummers DJ Bonebrake (X) and Kevin Jarvis; vocalists Evie Sands and Teresa Cowles; saxophonist Larry O. Williams (GAP band) and trumpeter Rahmlee Michael Davis of the Phenix Horns (Earth, Wind & Fire; Phil Collins).

For his Sophisticated & Solo acoustic tour, in advance of the release, Norman played a series of dates in Britain in May, 2012, including stops at the Cavern Club and the Notting Hill Arts Club in London; and Los Angeles. He returned to the UK for the fourth time in May, 2013 for shows in London, Manchester and Liverpool accompanied by Mr. Marsland.

Norman's solo journey, after being the lead singer and bassist of Rush Hour Soul, began in earnest with the release of A Talent For Loving. It followed on the heels of his first tour of the UK, which hit London, York, Sheffield and Liverpool, where his music was well-received. The title track "A Talent For Loving" was recorded at Monnow Valley Studio in Monmouth, Wales. The song's official video was directed by William Archer and shot on location in London.
