Peter Madcat Ruth

Grammy Award winning Peter Madcat Ruth’s music has been evolving for over 50 years. It started in the Chicago area in the early 1960s, with Madcat playing folk/blues on guitar and harmonica. By the late 60s he had immersed himself in the Chicago Blues and was studying harmonica with Big Walter Horton. In the early 70s Madcat moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where he was a key presence in two of Ann Arbor's finest progressive rock bands: New Heavenly Blue and Sky King. By the mid 70s Madcat was touring the world with jazz pianist Dave Brubeck. In the 80s, Madcat went solo infusing the folk/blues tradition with elements of rock and jazz. In 1990 Madcat and Shari Kane formed the highly acclaimed Acoustic Blues duo, Madcat & Kane.  A few years later Madcat started playing with Chris Brubeck's eclectic trio, Triple Play. In 1998 Madcat started performing in Brazil with the Brazilian Blues guitarist Big Joe Manfra. So far Madcat & Manfra have completed 13 tours of Brazil and one in the USA. Currently Madcat is playing with his new quartet, the Madcat Midnight Blues Journey, as well as performing solo shows, and accompanying many other artists.
