Rhydian and the Residuals

Rhydian And The Residuals. After Starting an Australian tour, Rhydian And The Residuals recorded an album to sell whilst on tour. After good sales and feedback, they decided to take the next logical step and have made it available for download. There is currently another album in mastering stage which contains some very creative versions of some well known songs from the 80's, and some classic jazz versions of some of our the bands favorites.

Rhydian Lewis
Originally born in Wales, UK, Rhydian was given a Frank Sinatra cassette tape at the age of 14 (Come Fly With Me) which he played over and over until he had learnt all the songs and lyrics.

Rhydian sang in UK band “Word of Mouth” in which he had a local hit record with “Fly away” and “Will You Be Mine”? Rhydian has also released 2 other records in the UK, A Double A sided CD “In Love With My Best Friend” and “Give Me One More Chance,” with duet group Lewis & Flett. After failing to make a career out of music, Rhydian decided it was time to follow his other passions, ocean swimming and an outdoor lifestyle and moved to Australia and went back into education to learn how to become a hairdresser.

To earn extra money, Rhydian started singing Michael Bublé songs within Hope Island, Queensland, Australia, in venues such as Mexi’s (now renamed Leo’s), The Hyatt Lounge Veranda Bar (as resident jazz singer), Red Rock Cafe, and within Sanctuary Cove Marina Village, around 2010 and up to present day. Rhydian’s Brisbane Jazz Club debut, covering Sinatra and Bobby Darin songs was at an open mic in 2011. Rhydian was keen to put together a jazz band and luckily found the already formed trio of Fred Cole (piano), Hans Lovejoy (double bass) and Ben Cox (drums) who were performing in the Tattersal Hotel in Lismore NSW.

With over 250 songs under his belt Rhydians’ song knowledge is vast and varied, offering many different feelings and tempos’ within the jazz and swing 1930’s to 1950’s period and up to latter day hits.

With a personal style, groove and feel all his own, Ben is well on his way to becoming a widely sought after drummer across Australia.

Ben has proven himself as a professional studio musician and enthralling live performer playing with Australian and international artists such as Tim Freedman (The Whitlams), Marshall and the fro, Jefery Siler, Todd Robinson (Kate DeArouge), Regan Osbourne and numerous others around the country and abroad.

While currently maintaining a busy touring schedule, Ben has also found his way onto recent studio albums from Jefrey Siler (U.S.A.) and Regan Osborne, as well as appearing in various musical theater productions. With a full schedule lined up for 2013 it seems this is just the start for Ben Cox.
“Ben Cox is for me a drummer’s drummer, amazing grooves, plenty of flash and with more feel than some players twice his age, Ben has a versatility, touch and attention to detail that is seeing him become one of the chased drummer’s everyone wants for their projects, hence why I snapped up this emerging drummer for my current project and Ambivalence tour. It will be no surprise to me to see Ben become a sought after name in Australian drumming in the near future.” - Scott Hills (Drummer with Troy Cassar-Daley, Marcia Hines, educator.
