Rob Thompson

Born in Ottawa, Canada, Rob’s career in the arts began at the age of 15 with photography when, much to his mother’s dismay, he tore out the wall between two cupboards to create a darkroom.

In his late teens he watched a very cool guitarist on TV and wished he could play guitar, so he begged borrowed (and borrowed some more) to buy an old clunker of a guitar and soon joined a band and began composing music for theatre.
In his 20’s he combined his love of all things visual and musical and went to film school. Soon after he wrote and directed a musical feature film entitled, Undercurrents. It was not long however before Rob developed a passion for video and has since worked on hundreds of productions in various roles including writer, director, editor and composer.

Some of his productions include: Collateral Damages, a multi-media performance on violence at the National Arts Centre Atelier; Caged, a live event at SAW Gallery on the egg production industry where he paid two people $5,000 to live in a chicken cage for a week; and Journey To Little Rock, a documentary on civil rights activist Minniejean Brown Trickey. These works have been screened at a number of galleries across North America and Europe including the British Film Institute, the Irish Film Centre, and the National Gallery of Art in Washington.

But Rob never lost his love of music and over the years has released 5 CDs and a number of music videos. He currently resides in the small town on Killaloe where he takes photos, writes music, and makes videos.
