Sarah Stivers

Sarah Stivers discovered her muse in the full bloom of womanhood, and cut her musical teeth in the bistros of Paris, during extensive travels in France. She was first invited to sit in, then hired. It intoxicated her.

Back in the U.S., she teamed up with bassist and world-renowned jazz stalwart Rufus Reid on her debut album, This Girl’s in Love. A compilation of traditional and contemporary standards, This Girl has been described as “remarkably smooth and consistent.” The clever arrangements on the CD are the work of pianist/arranger Steve Allee who also played on the recording.

Since she began singing professionally, Sarah has contributed her vocals to both big band and small group music. She has performed with celebrated jazz artist and educator Don Braden and worked with pianist-composer George Genna.

Sarah has a soft spot for contemporary standards and especially likes the way Burt Bacharach, Roberta Flack and Herp Alpert tunes lend themselves to her modern interpretations. As Sarah grew up, her house was filled with such tunes, and she attributes a dead-on accuracy in intonation, for which she has received critical accolades, to having sung harmony parts in gatherings with more experienced singers. Sarah acknowledges the influences of Nancy Wilson, Diane Schuur and Linda Ronstadt.

This girl, Sarah Stivers, is in love with life and she’s in love with music. Her ambition is to perform in the U.S. and abroad. She’s bilingual – French and English – and “willing to relocate.”

Has tune, will travel.
