Shannon-Goodrich Ensemble

The Shannon-Goodrich Ensemble is a critically acclaimed, original Australian world-jazz ensemble. Fronted by 2 established Melbourne musicians - Clare Shannon (piano) and Elissa Goodrich (vibraphone & marimba) colleagues and friends since studying at Victorian College of the Arts over 10 years ago. Clare continues to freelance in Latin-jazz and pop outfits. Elissa continues to freelance across various musicial idioms and to compose and perform in art-installations, physical theatre and contemporary dance.

The Shannon-Goodrich Ensemble has performed at Melbourne International Arts Festival, has had their music featured at CCCB (Barcelona) Sound Art Festival and has been nominated twice for 2009 Australian Jazz work of the Year. The Shannon-Goodrich Ensemble continues to create original music that blends world and contemporary jazz (including Latin) influences of its two lead musicians-composers, and that of its regular guest artists. The Shannon-Goodrich Ensemble features piano and vibes in alluring combinations including voice, accordion, saxophone, double bass and latin percussion.

The Shannon-Goodrich Ensemble's first music project and CD release - Crossing Over (2005) (supported by Arts Victoria) 2005 included 2 new suites of music; The Tango Suite - inspired by Astor Piazzolla and The Amnesty Suite inspired by poetry from the Amnesty International Anthology of Poetry. In 2006 the Ensemble undertook a new music project - Worlds within Worlds - in collaboration with Iranian-born Australian writer & translator Ali Alizadeh - inspired by Rumi's Ancient Sufi poetry (supported by The Sidney Myer Fund & Arts Victoria Rocks). 2007 included performances of Worlds Within Worlds' song cycle for the Melbourne International Arts Festival. Their latest CD Worlds Within Worlds (2008) was 'CD of the Week' on the Australian National Broadcaster (ABC Radio National) and received 2 x Nominations for the 2009 APRA Awards - 2009 Australian Jazz Work Of The Year (for the works "Beyond Both Worlds" and "Sailing Day"). 2010 sees Clare And Elissa commence their current project 'States of Play' supported by Australia Council for the Arts.
