The Citadels

Cormac O Caoimh is a solo performer from Cork and ex singer-songwriter of The Citadels, a band who over 10 years have encompassed various shapes and sizes, resulting in the lo-fi acoustic "Shadow of my Northern Star" EP in 1999 and transforming into a full band - big sound - six piece who released the critically acclaimed "Letting Go. Holding On" cd in 2003 and the "Lovelight" EP in 2006. He debut solo cd "Stark a spark" was released in 2007 and his second solo album is due for release in 2012. This new album " A New Season For Love" showcases his fingerpicking and classical guitar playing more so than earlier releases.

As a solo artist Cormac played three gigs at the London Calling festival , the Hard Working Class heroes festival in Dublin and received a glowing review for his Canadian Music week performance in Toronto in Canada’s premier music magazine. He has picked up some well known admirers along the way including Ron Sexsmith, Tom Robinson (BBC) and Hot press music magazine.

He has supported Damien Rice (in the Paradiso, Amsterdam), Declan O Rourke, Josh Rouse, Mark Geary, Nick Kelly, Miles Hunt and Damien Dempsey to name but a few. He also ventured further afield playing headlining gigs and slots in Edinburgh, London, Amsterdam and New York.
His solo live performances vary between fast and frenetic indie-pop acoustic guitar playing, slower tunes heavily influenced by his classical guitar playing background and jazz influenced folk tunes. The songs are key though and they all have a catchiness or accessibility at their core that outweigh any stylistic definition

Luminous front man Cormac O Caoimh releases his first solo album. More than your typical singer-songwriter, O Caoimh mixes pop sensibility with finely tuned song writing wrapping it all up in his soft melodic confidence and sharp lyrical commentary

There is a lot of good stuff coming out of Ireland at the moment, people like Damien Rice and David Kitt and I got cd recently from Cormac O Caoimh from Cork which I really like.

The lyrics are clever and powerful, demanding attention. The tunes are poppy and catchy. The performance and arrangements are nigh on flawless. Both the writing and the execution are exemplary

Well worth checking out. I've been listening to this all day. Lovely stuff.

Talk about blessed relief, hallelujah and praise be all in one merciful musical package.

'The Citadels' were a terrific band from Cork(Ireland) ; sadly they are no more. Luckily, we have this new solo album from the Citadels front man. Admirers of Prefab Sprout , Roddy Frame, or Damien Rice will likely devour this record. Cormac's lyrics are whip-smart,and his easy-going vocal style grabs the attention. From the punchy title track, all the way to the wonderful closing duet ('If You Feel') this record is a cut above, and deserves to be widely heard.
The Big TakeOver Magazine, New York

“the entire collection of songs on Start a Spark is uplifting and danceable with poetic lyrics that are just marvelously outstanding.”
