The Dancehall Players

2018 and still playing every Thursday night at Dan's Hall and often at dances, garden parties and fundraisers in the Victoria area and on the nearby Gulf Islands. We have three CDs - two are English Country Dance programs and one - Fresh from Dan's Hall - contains original tunes from The Dancehall Players. Look for all 3 albums here at cdBaby! Now we have another CD in production (#4) - AN EVENING AT DAN"S HALL - a dance program in a similar format to our first 2 recordings. This new CD should be available here by early December!

The story of The Dancehall Players started at Dan's Hall, a wonderful dance space attached to a 19th century farmhouse in Victoria. There, in 2001, regular Thursday evening English Country dances were established and live music was part of this venture from the beginning. At first, only Ann (piano) and Dan (fiddle and mandolin) were the house musicians, joined by visiting musical friends. Then Gregory (flute, guitar) and Susan (violin, recorder), Karen (cello), and Keith (violin) joined the group, and more recently Lael (recorder, percussion, guitar) and Aaron (violin, mandolin) and Barrie (cello, banjo).

We play in various combinations, whoever is available at the time - and always we are The Dancehall Players! For the last dozen years or so, the band has played for the Victoria Balls, the Mayne Island Ball, and Hands Across the Water, a 3 day ECD workshop in September every year. Periodically some of us are invited to join local musicians in Vancouver. We also appear occasionally at Government House here in Victoria, the home of the Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia - an elegant facility with a lovely ballroom - a gracious dancing experience. Always great fun and always live - and preferably acoustic!!
