The Golden Crowns

The Golden Crowns was established by the late Ray Shanklin around the year of 1940 along with his brothers. When they began, they sung with no music, their style was hand clapping, feet stumping with the harmonizing sound. Later down the years, God blessed them with an Guitarist. Soon after several singers where called into the ministry of preaching and as the group progressed new members where added to the group.

Into any group the death Angel called the founder and manager home to be with the Lord. It was hard

For the group to find an replacement of someone who was dedicated to the group, but the Golden Crowns did and they voted unanimously on Brother Virgil Ryland as the Manager.

With tremendous work and togetherness in the 1980’s the group recorded their first record. As years went members come and left. But by faith the Golden crowns kept moving and saw the need too get their on equipment and trailer to travel down the highway singing God’s praises.

For thirty years Virge managed the group, in November of two thousand and two The death Angels called the Golden Crowns devoted manager Virge home to be with the Lord and the roll of managing went into the hands of the lead singer and lead guitarist brother Tony Thorn.

Stepping up to the plate of managing the Crowns Tony sincerity and devotion brought strive into the group with a Vision to record a few CD’s and to start their own recording studio “ GCR Records”.

God blessed the Golden Crowns to travel across the country singing with some of the top gospel groups in the country to name a few the late Willie Banks, the late Howard “Slim” Hunt, the Pilgrim Jubilees, The Canton Spirituals, the Williams Brothers the Highway QC’s and many others.

For twelve years under Tony leadership the Crowns achieved some amazing goals, but April, 2014 God called our brother Tony home and once again we strive for a manager who could fill the shoes as our dear brother Tony did.

Another group member brother Allen Bryd spoke up and said he could do it and he became the manager for several years until illness came and the death Angels called him home.
