The Nairobi Trio (aka: Donavan/Muradian Quintet)

The Donavan/Muradian Quintet has been playing in Southern California for over 25 years. We have just completed our latest C.D. project this year with the release of the follow-up to 1998s “Straight Ahead” with “Straight Ahead Vol.2”. We are very proud of the results. As LA Weekly writer Brick Wahl declares, “DMQ cooks. Always have. From their debut “Straight Ahead” through a zillion gigs and onto their fourth and latest here, Straight Ahead, Volume 2”. The new C.D.,already recieving air-play on KJAZZ, includes songs from John Coltrane, Sonny Clark, and Hogy Carmichael plus three new originals from co-leaders Jeff Donavan and Larry Muradian. DMQ loves to play live and has been playing at a little coffee shop in South Pasadena for 18 years and enjoy exposing children and young musicians to jazz encouraging them to sit in and play. DMQ can be heard at Cafe 322 in Sierra Madre and are known to play concerts, parties and weddings, where ever they can bring their music to add to an event or occasion..One thing is for sure, we like to have fun when we play and enjoy playing the gammet of Jazz styles, from bop to swing, latin to standards, and ballads. DMQ’s frontline, trumpeter Kye Palmer (The Tonight Show) and saxophonist Chuck Manning (LA Jazz Quartet), are two of the best players in Los Angeles and always inspire. Curtis Brengle on piano plays with an emotion and fire that is rare. Bassist Larry Muradian and Jeff Donavan on drums have been working together over 27 years and supply a solid rythmic foundation. All this helped us I’m sure win The Long Beach Jazz Festivals Best Mainstream Band Of 2004. Our live preformances are full of Jazz classics, our own tunes and we swing hard playing our brand of “Straight Ahead Jazz”
