Tim McHugh

I'm a rock-influenced acoustic guitar-player/songwriter/published author who strives to demolish the boundaries between folk and rock music while raging against the dying of the light. Occasionally I'll take a break and write a novel, or hop on the bike. The 12-string is my weapon of choice. Sometimes it's loud. Sometimes it's quiet. Some times it's all over the place.

I live by the belief that artists are called in some way or other to speak truth to power and I've long-admired artists like Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Roger Waters and John Lennon who weave personal experience with world events. My music seeks to do this as well.

"An effortless strength, clarity, and full-hearted fetch rare in music these days. The lyrics suggest a return to the folk-rock greats of a generation and more passed . . ." — The Fish Wrapper

"Ever since his 1989 debut Shadows on the Land, McHugh has built a loyal base of fans throughout the Pacific Northwest with his often searing acoustic guitar playing combined with his passionate, heart-felt lyrics. He’s made peace with the fact that his music seems to draw out the reflective, brooding poet who is keenly aware of the lack of attention given to certain issues like gun violence, war, etc. and that’s something that he takes seriously." — Joseph Ponder, The Bellingham Weekly

''Tim McHugh has the audacity to believe that his music can change the world . . . he may be right.'' — Bob Terrill, Program Director, KCSU Radio, Ft. Collins CO

'' . . . A clear and expressive voice and a gift for unusual, understated melodies . . . lyrically McHugh covers a lot territory yet everything eventually boils down to love and the pain it can bring . . . his playing is so good that it seems effortless.'' — Option Magazine
