YEIBICHAI (pronounced yay-beh-chay) is a progressive rock band that formed in California and released its self-titled debut on December 17th 2010.

The term Yeibichai was first encountered by founding guitarist Jimmy Tomahawk who regularly visits the befriended Navajo peoples on their homelands. To them, the “Yeibichai” are beings who come to man from the ‘other world’ to remind him how to live in balance with the natural elements of this realm.

Originally spawned in the Midwestern US upon the nearly lifelong musical alliance of Tomahawk and drummer Benjamin Stein, the duo reformed in California and joined with bassist Tai Hake and vocalist Stephen Vincent Ezell. With influences drawn from many cultures merged with heavy-progressive rock, esoteric thinking, and psychedelic expressionism, YEIBICHAI is a unique musical entity with a compelling undertone that explores the beauty and absurdity of life in the new millennium.

With Grammy winning engineer Mark Vinten at the helm, YEIBICHAI entered a Northern California studio in late 2010 to begin tracking their full length debut album. Throughout the following 3 months the debut was recorded, mixed in Los Angeles and mastered in San Francisco. The album clocks in at 50 minutes consisting of 8 ambitious musical compositions built upon the impeccable groove-oriented drums of Stein, the intriguing bass work of Hake, the intricacies of Tomahawk’s guitar riffing and the primal voice and prose of Ezell.

Just as their namesakes do, YEIBICHAI seek to peel back the thin facade between our preconceptions of what is possible and what we deride as merely phantasm.
