Your Gracious Host

The driving force behind Your Gracious Host is Tom Curless, a talented singer/songwriter multi instrumentalist from Grand Blanc, Michigan.

Tom’s first major Chicago based band Autoliner released two records on the independent Parasol label in Champaign, IL and gained national attention, with rave reviews in The Chicago Tribune, Sun Times, All, and a host of others. They received radio play on WXRT in Chicago and WNEW in New York, as well as playing shows in Los Angeles and House of Blues in Chicago. Due to popular demand a vinyl version of the first album was also issued in Japan. Tom had a hand in writing many of the songs, as well as contributing vocals, drums and guitar.

Tom relocated to Michigan in the Fall of 2005 and set up a home studio in the basement of his house. He continued to write and record at home, eventually amassing enough tracks for a record. These newer tracks along with some solo tracks he had recorded back in Chicago became the basis of the self titled debut Your Gracious Host. Released in October of 2008, the debut was a 2 CD set and had essentially been four years in the making. Once released, the record caught the notice of several new fans, many of whom favorably compared the record to bands such as Teenage Fanclub, the Posies and Elliott Smith.

Your Gracious Host is driven by Curless but also serves as a musical collective of sorts with the talents of many musical friends lending a hand (Brian Leach, Ellis Clark, John Ross, Brian Krumm, Greg Jenkinson just to name a few). Over the last few years each release has received positive critical notice from the likes of The Big Takeover, Absolute Powerpop, Daggerzine, Caught in the Carousel, Under the Tangerine Tree, etc. The last YGH record Falling off the Earth (2013) received quite a bit of critical interest as well as internet radio play and has gained a large online fan base. Falling off the Earth is now being heard on Pandora Radio. YGH has played many live shows in various incarnations throughout the midwest over the last few years.

Release # 6 titled "The writers of our Destiny" is set for release on June 1st 2015 on Meccanic Records (CD, Vinyl and digital download). It will be released via internet and digital distribution through CD Baby. It is a song cycle built around a short story and was recorded at Big Sky studios in Ann Arbor, MI. It revolves around the story of an anti-hero with a past he is running from and a future he can't seem to find. The record is a sonic powerhouse with lot of twists which are guaranteed to delight the faithful and sure to gain new fans!
