ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
11 Volt

The power failure in Echo Park when 11 volt recorded was no accident. Well aside from that part of Los Angeles having an old crappy power grid, 11 Volt trashed a lot of juice. In fact some accidents with local radio found its way to tape, taking their session on a turn toward the sinister. Their new release Sketches is an honest adventure into underground nuclear jazz.

Its no secret how the 11 Volt musicians found each other. Each member has refined influences from Coltrane/Shorter style soul jazz, hard rock, Afro-Caribbean, underground D&B, and trad blues. The group empathy, interaction, and chemistry speak for itself.

11 Volt Members:
Mike Hoffmann's guitar playing and compositions can best be described as a hybrid of influences with a jazz sensibility.

His style authentically integrates jazz, rock, world, drum and bass, and minimalism. Possessing immaculate technique, advanced harmonic creativity and the gift of improvisation, Mike's playing reveals a multi-dimensional approach to the guitar.

His credits illustrate his musical diversity, having recorded & toured with saxophonist John Handy, Miles Davis drummer Tony Williams, Solomon Burke, Linda Hopkins, Pink Floyd producer Bob Ezrin, percussionist Ed Mann (MD for Frank Zappa) and Celtic fusion legends Bad Haggis. Recently Mike is featured on AIX records DVD Span with guest artist salsa singer/actor Ruben Blades.

Drummer Chris Wabich lends subtlety and insight to Bill Evans compositions" Nenette Evans (Bill Evans widow)

Chris Wabich is known for his unique approach as a drumset stylist. He has created an original vocabulary by combining traditional rhythms, wacky limb independence, authentic world influences and updated brush artistry. Chris has been a featured drum set artist-clinician with the Percussive Arts Society state conventions in Montana, Iowa, Arizona, California, North Carolina, and CSU Summer Arts Workshops.

Chris has performed and recorded with Ludicrous, Sting, Brian Bromberg, Lalo Shifrin, Alex Acuna, Sheila E, Jimmy Johnson (Allan Holdsworth), Larry Koonse, Darek Oles (Brad Mehldau), Axiom of Choice, Omar Faruk Tekbilec, Eric Bachmann, shows Better Homes & Gardens, Malcom In the Middle, 2005 MTV Music Awards, Prog Rock legends Kevin Ayers (Soft Machine), and Richard Sinclair (Caravan)

Chris endorses Cadeson Custom Drums and Cymbals

Doug Shreeve's adventurous bass styling is quickly gaining recognition in the LA jazz and progressive scene. His soloing is completely unique, at the same time being rooted in jazz and blues. Doug's approach to bass accompanying is more interactive, linear and interwoven. And he is out of his mind with the stomp box distortion.

Aside from 11Volt, Doug writes and co-produces for Code 3, a well known fusion group that has headlined the Baked Potato monthly for several years. As a leader with Code 3, Doug has produced 2 CDs that received critical acclaim. He also tours with the trad blues band Persuader. Recently Doug has been an artist for the International Association of Jazz Educators, Line Space Line series, Café Tropical jazz series, and Cuesta College.

Doug endorses Exotic effects pedals.

The In- out there
Out there but in a good way. They stich together the space between the space with threads sewn logicaly deconstucted to fit.If you catch there drift you'll float a good ways above the undercurrents of sympathetic nervous systems.
