ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Here\'s more of the Happiest Music on Earth! These great selections sound wonderful on the Wurlitzer 153! Take a look at the song list and you\'ll see some unusual selections - perfect for the audiophile and music collector, and a must have for carousel band organ enthusiasts!

Lake Compounce Theme Park, located in Bristol, Connecticut, has the distinction of being the oldest continually running amusement theme park in the United States. The interesting history of the park dates back to 1846 and includes, among many other notable events, the installation of Connecticut’s first ten-pin bowling alley, the establishment, in 1875, of the still continuing Crocodile Club, and innovations like the open air dance floor and thrilling Chris Craft speedboat rides.

In 1895 the restaurant served a full course dinner for $.50 and in 1929 boat rides were $.15. No wonder thousands came from all over New England to enjoy the scenic park. During the Big Band Era, dancing under the stars to the likes of the Dorsey band and young singer Frank Sinatra kept the crowds coming.

Maintaining an historic carousel and a band organ is a true labor of love combined with the skill of fine craftsmanship. In selecting the music, specially cutting the band organ rolls, recording, and producing the final product, many people contributed their expertise and knowledge to achieve the grand sound that the 153 Military Style Wurlitzer Band Organ produces on this recording.
They\'re all listed in the CD insert and on the web site.

It is said that the carousel is the first and last ride - a baby is held astride a prancing horse and seniors enjoy a spin in the grand chariots. Take a nostalgic trip back in time and this music will have you smiling and singing along down memory lane.

What a unique memory jogger!
I live in Connecticut and visited Lake Compounce while growing up, so I was delighted to see this CD among the dozen or so recordings available at CD Baby. The songs were well chosen; a great mix of familiar tunes with generally unknown melodies, just as one hears on a merry-go-round. Some of the Wurlitzer sounds fascinated me, since they went beyond what I would have expected to hear. For example, the train whistle effect on Chatanooga Choo Choo. At first I didn't know how good the recording would be, since the drumming on the sound sample seemed at times too loud for the rest of the instrumentation. But on the actual CD the balance was excellent, resulting in a much more realistic carousel sound. This is a fun CD for all seasons, especially in winter, when riding the merry-go-round is not an entertainment option.
