Album Notes
1 Uppers is a country band. A band that is all about sad songs, memorable melodies, tight harmonies, guitar solos and matching suits.

Having playing for years in Seattle bands (Jon Hyde Band, Transmissionary Six, Jumbalassy, Varmint (with Wayne Horvitz and Robin Holcomb), Dudley Manlove Quartet, Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter, David Russell, Swains… this list goes on!!) the member of 1 Uppers decided it was time to form a new band and go a new direction:

Country Music.

1 Uppers formed in the name of making real old-school original country music. To highlight the inspirations drawn from the past and to ignore the polish applied to what is currently described as country music. 1 Uppers self titled debut CD is one that rewards listeners all the way to the end of the disc with tragic suicide ballads (“Ophelia”), snide commentary (“Cadillac Truck”), classic country harmonies (“Maybe Probably”), slow sad waltzes (“Path Not Taken”, “All Over”), Murder (“Silver Drawer”), work dread (“Punch It In”) and a surprising country telling of the Smiths classic “How Soon Is Now”?

1 Uppers are:

David Russell – vocals, acoustic guitar
Jon Hyde – pedal steel, dobro, vocals
Kris Geren – electric guitar, baritone
John Hendow – electric guitar
Caben Buswell – bass
Eric Eagle – drums

Wayne Horvitz – piano, B3

Look at what this nice man said about us...

“…They play mostly originals ... I think. Meaning that their material fits so seamlessly into the pantheon of Americana that you are not quit sure if it's their's or a Hank Williams or Buck Owens tune that you have not heard before…’

Boot Tapping Good Time
A great fun romp of a release. The songs run the board from ballads to boot stopmpin tunes that make it hard to sit still. The rhythms have movement and layers that keep you listening a second or third time just to listen to the different guitar riffs and the lyrics are soulful or fun depending on the song. After listening to this one, you'll be keeping an anxious ear out for the 1Uppers next release.
