Tank Full Of Gas And An Empty Cup

by 3 Feet Up

This debut CD sounds like Sting and Dave Matthews writing songs about the middle way and not leaning too heavily on society's influences.

Album Notes
Sometimes it takes great strength to be true to yourself. Pop band 3 feet up often writes songs about that very subject and also personifies the concept. For instance, they have no bass player. What? A band without a bass player? Chris Hardy, the guitarist & vocalist sometimes plays guitar chords that make seasoned jazz players go "Huh?" and wife/drummer Victoria Hardy plays a modest drumkit while standing up.

Most of their songs are positive and supportive of finding one's own personal truths, as well as celebrating differences instead of fearing them. Compare them to most indie bands and you'll see just how different 3 feet up is.

Since their musical inception in April of 2004, 3 feet up has released three CDs, played the legendary Hard Rock Cafe in Boston, Massachusetts, appeared on several compilations and they were featured on the CBS Early Show in July 2006. Not to mention the 200+ live shows they've played in their first 3 years, which shows how they are very much "musical workaholics."

Their sound has been compared to Steely Dan, Cake, Dave Matthews, Sting, They Might Be Giants, XTC and even more...

Outside of the musical world, Victoria spends much time being a nationally syndicated writer for the American Chronicle online newspaper as well as other news sources. When not confusing jazz guitarists, Chris works as a woodwind instrument repair technician by day. He enjoys practicing Uechi-ryu karate and watching hockey games.

You rock!
Where else can I have my spirit energized and enlightened with some very wise lyrics? It changed my life-easier to hear the words on CD rather than live.

Well-crafted and quirky!
I always enjoyed seeing 3 Feet Up when they played in Maine. These well-crafted and quirky songs will appeal to fans of They Might Be Giants, BNL and the like.

Chris Hardy yet again brings the important: Uniqeness.
"Bowling shirt lounge" is an apt description of the sound for 3 Feet Up. Whenever you listen to music, you always try to compare it to other artists. It just happens. Don't deny it. That's why my brain kind of squirms when it listens to any Chris Hardy project because there is never anything to compare it to. Breaking chord change cliches here and there, Tank Full of Gas and an Empty Glass has flavors of Nervous Boy without the coffee. When you've listened to all the thrash metal you can handle for one day, pop in some 3 Feet Up and let your mind wander.

A real treasure
I have purchased 2 CDs from this artist and I have not been disappointed. The music is light, whimsical and easy listening. A wonderful combination. No bad words here! My favorite track on this CD is Trash Day. My family both like the music and the songs on this album. I would recommend this CD to anyone that likes the sounds of early REM or John Mayer. You won't be disappointed.

Wonderful. What a breath of fresh air!
3 Feet Up creates beautiful music about real life. Their slightly Julian Lennon sound is simply enjoyable, relaxing, and a much needed breath of fresh air.

Love the tunes; love the lyrics; love the musicians..... of course, that has nothing to do with the fact that the singer/songwriter is my son! Excellent collection of songs and a pleasure to listen to.
