Album Notes
4FRONT is an instrumental group featuring guitarist Zak Rizvi, drummer Joe Bergamini, and bassist Frank LaPlaca.

GRAVITY is their first album, re-issued in 2002 with 1 bonus track. Their second album, RADIO WAVES GOODBYE, is also available here at CD Baby.

4Front combines hard-edged progressive rock, top-notch instrumental skills, pop melodies, cinematic arrangements, and symphonic touches to create a unique tapestry of modern instrumental rock music. At times conjuring memories of Rush, Thomas Dolby, Billy Joel, John Williams, Joe Jackson, Return To Forever, Toto, Dream Theater, and classical composers such as Copland and Rachmaninoff, 4Front creates a unique sound accessible to listeners of many styles.

Drummer Joe Bergamini is also a member of the legendary prog rock group HAPPY THE MAN, and performs on Broadway in the Billy Joel / Twyla Tharp show MOVIN' OUT. He is well known to drummers as a writer for MODERN DRUMMER, and a clinician for TAMA, SABIAN, VIC FIRTH, EVANS, and LP.

Zak and Joe performed together for 11 years in the US's premier Rush tribute band, Power Windows.

Bassist Frank LaPlaca comes to the band from top NYC rock acts Eternal Vision and The Buddha Brains. He and Joe have played together for over 10 years.

4Front has performed extensively in the Eastern US and in Puerto Rico, including opening shows for SAGA, MARILLION, and KANSAS.

If you are a fan of hot fusion oriented rock-and-roll with a slight cinematic or symphonic feel you gotta check these guys out! All thirteen tracks crackle with an energy and passion that takes you from Satriani influenced lead runs to romantic piano flourishes this side of Rachmaninoff. And while progressive bands are sometimes known for their musical self indulgence, 4Front never loses sight of intelligible hooks and melodies. Oh yes, my friends, you're in for a real treat as I give these guys my highest recommendation!

Most experienced musicians eventually realize that a solid group effort is always more successful (and rewarding) than a bunch of virtuosos trying to outdo one another. The melodic yet hard-edged progressive rock trio 4Front have a solid grasp on the all-for-one attitude. Interesting instrumental material along with a solid production brings this New Jersey trio into contention with the best of today's prog bands. Drummer Joe Bergamini displays solid chops and an excellent sense of playing for the arrangement. His drum sound is wet and thick, suiting this style perfectly. And he thankfully chooses taste over self-indulgence. The material on Gravity is so melodic that it's easy to imagine a quality vocalist only adding to the success of this top-notch trio.

An excellent CD
I found this disc to be an excellent experience. A great production of rock instrumentals with a progressive rock feel. Tracks like Blur, A Dying Wish and the title track, Gravity, are real stand-outs. The songs are performend by three excellent performents, and they blend wonderfully. A great find.

Great musicianship! Great Composition!
I was exploring new progressive rock bands, and I liked this album very much. It makes a cool tight-sounding ambient while you work. What made me get it was the track "Dr. Chicken". Two more tracks I loved were "The Front" and "Space and Time," which reminds me very much of video game music--Sci-Fi side-scrollers or something. You won't regret buying this.

Good Prog, Lot's O' Meat in this sasuage!!!
Produced well, punchy drums... but for as awesome as the drums were recorded, I thought the guitar tones lacked the same thickness. OK tone, but just a tad thin... would have honored the guitarist's skill much better. Still, it's worth the buy!

First class instrumental music. A worth buying.

The way rock should be.
Great cd. I especially enjoyed the percussion part more than anything. The combination of this group and their skills is great. i can see how they sound similar to Rush (my favorite classic rock band) Most of the time i listen to trance music but occasionally put in the good stuff (classic rock). I also like the fact they they had no words. Word can sometimes be hard to tell what they are trying to imply...instead i can put in my own thoughts and feelings to make my "own song". This way things never get boring and i dont become confused to try and figure out what they are saying.

Serious progressive rock
The music is basicly guitar based; the keyboards work mostly a little bit shy in the background, which leaves a sound similar to Rush - even though Rushs music these days are filled with far less fantasy than 4Fronts 2 album

It is absolutely wonderful!
the CD came really fast and it plays well.

Thank you

Eric Page

These guys are very tight and put down some big guitar tracks with blazzing riffs and very interesting compositions. I highly recommend this CD for anyone who loves great guitar jazz fusion.

Great disc and great musicians
4Front is the collaboration of the Joe Bergamini (drummer), Zak Rizvi (guitarist), and Frank Placa (bass) to produce an eclectic, progressive instrumental album titled Gravity.

Generally when you hear progressive and instrumental in the same sentence, you initially think about a group of musicians who are trying to play as many notes as humanly possible, well, not with this CD. Although there are spots where each musician shines, it is all done tastefully and in the context of the song. Joe Bergamini’s drum sound is fat, thick, and right in line with what the music calls for. The music combines a wide range of influences that the band members all bring in together. If you like bands like Rush, Dream Theater, Satriani, the Police, and Genesis then Gravity will be right up your alley.

The great thing about this disc is the ability of the musicians to portray a solid hook and bring the listener in without having vocals. Even the few self-indulgent sections are done tastefully and done in order to enhance the song.

I would recommend this to any person who enjoys progressive style music.
