Nu Jazz Music…

76 Degrees West Band has just released a Funky Jazz cover of the Average White Band’s super hit, “School Boy Crush\". It is sure to light you up with that Washington DC funk flavor, combining old school with new school.

The band is based out of the Washington DC area and has played behind numerous national acts such as the Grammy Award Winner Gordon Chambers, Sax Man Jimmy Sommers, Eric Darius, Allyson Williams, and Angela Johnson. They call their style \"Nu Jazz-Funk\" which has been lighting up stages across the U.S. since 2001, swiftly evolving into one of the funkiest sounding groups to hit the music industry.

They have performed at various festivals and clubs around the country with other artists such as: Ledisi, Maysa, Grammy Nominee Victor Duplaix, Lynne Fiddmont, Marcus Johnson, Rahsaan Patterson, Ollie Woodson (of The Temptations), Rick Braun, Michael Langton, and more.

76 Degrees West Band is:

Leon Rawlings - Director, Bass Guitar, Trombone
Eddie Baccus - Sax
Duane Thomas - Drums
Sean Chase - Drums
Alfredo Mojica - Percussion
Stanley Cooper - Lead & Rhythm Guitar
Gerry Gillespie – Keyboards
Vince Evans- Keyboards

The bands name was inspired by the longitude for the East Coast in the Western Hemisphere which is 76°W covering the Washington DC metropolitan area. They are currently working on a hot debut album set to be released in the fall of 2008. Their version of \"School Boy Crush\" is sure to get your party started right.

SmoothJazz.com Review
Inside or outside The Beltway, this Washington D.C. band is the bomb! The 76 DEGREES WEST BAND (the name comes from the longitude of the D.C. Metro) call their style “Nu Jazz-Funk,” further describing it as “instrumental Funky Jazz music with saxophone highlights wrapped in an East Coast Swing.” Bassist/trombonist Leon Rawlings heads up the group, which has a heavy emphasis on horns, with Eddie Baccus covering most of the sax work. Jimmy Sommers is featured on the track “This Summer.” The funk element is undeniable on the band’s dynamic cover of AWB’s “School Boy Crush, ” and “Can’t Keep Runnin’,” featuring Gordon Chambers on vocals, is another stand out performance on this CD. It’s got an infectious old school vibe, reminiscent of The Brothers Johnson’s “Strawberry Letter 23.” With summer on its way, here’s a plan… grab a copy of 76 DEGREE WEST BAND and get the party started!
