Greg Poulos

Modern Day Asian Musical Genius
Marshall Hong is a modern day Asian musical genius, and this album proves it.

I knew Marshall way back in our college days and there were a lot of great musicians and bands (like Tuffy, Martini, Talisman, and more), but he always stood out as being one of the best.

His internal musical clock is more in the pocket than a metronome, it's uncanny.

There's a wide variety of cosmic synth-laden Americana/Asian-ana here and it's a wonderful feast for the ears.

Buy it now. You'll be glad you did.

Attack Time: a Great Collection of Songs
“Attack Time” artfully explores a range of musical styles from the opening Buffet-esque “Valse Latino” to rhythmic jam-band grooves of “I Guess That’s It” to epically weaved musical landscape of “First Watch.” Other highlights include the toe-tapping “Edwardsburg Blues” which is sure to have you singing along with the chorus and radio-ready “Magic Moments.”
It’s clear that the songs have been written by natural song-crafter, each one demanding multiple listens. The tracks feature excellent guitar work backed by a solid rock rhythm section, which is all highlighted by stellar piano and synthesizer work. The clear and distinct vocal approach sounds fresh in this day of misunderstood lyrics and the vocal integrity becomes even more pronounced in the four meagerly-layered demos included on the album. Also impressive is the fact that most of the instrumentation on many of the tracks was wielded by a single musician.
Take the opportunity to check out “Attack Time” and you’re sure to find it growing on you as you discover new sounds threaded within the layers with each listen. And here’s to looking forward to a follow-up release.
