WHEN THE LAUGHTER TURNS TO TEARS
Words and Music by William T. Bonnell

It’s such a miracle simply to be alive
That we’re around to see all the children smile
That’s when our laughter can turn to tears
The day you realize we’re holding onto every year
Oh let your tears fall down on me
Your tears fall down on me tonight
Oh Lord tonight
How can we just somehow slow down time
Appreciate all the beauty there is that we might find
That’s when our laughter can turn to tears
The day you realize we’re floating on a giant sphere
Everything seems to be going your way
Then someone comes along and tries to take it away
That’s when our laughter can turn to tears
The day you realize life’s not how it appears
Oh let your tears fall down on me
Your tears fall down on me tonight
Oh Lord tonight
Yes life can be such a leap of faith
That we hand to each other each and every day
That’s when the laughter turns to tears
When you realize not everyone is truly sincere
Oh let your tears fall down on me
Your tears fall down on me tonight
Oh Lord tonight

OH FATHER
Words and Music by William T. Bonnell

Daddy are you lookin’ down
Can you tell me are you proud
Where my life has taken me
The life that you were robbed to be
It’s been so long since you’ve gone
Would you help me to write this song
I’ve got so many things to say
And the years keep liftin’ away
Daddy I’m about to drown
Tell me do you see my frown
If only I could seek your advice
This world it ain’t no paradise
It’s been so long since you’ve gone
And how can I stand here strong
If only I wasn’t so afraid
Scared to death of my own grave
Daddy are you lookin’ down
Can you tell me are you proud
Where my life has taken me
Father I’ve got blood on my knees
It’s been so long since you’ve gone
Can you help me to right my wrongs
I have found a faith in me
I hope someday will set me free
Oh Father why do you forsake me
All alone and nailed to this tree
Daddy please just give me a sign
I’m about to go out of my mind
It’s been so long since you’ve gone
And why is ours such a sad, sad song
And Daddy will our paths cross again
How will you know me and call me your friend
Daddy are you lookin’ down
Can you tell me are you proud
Daddy is that you calling me
Is that the wind or just a dream
It’s been so long since you’ve gone
And why do I feel like such a pawn
And so I’ll sit here patiently
To see if you come back for me
And so I’ll wait here patiently
To hear if you’re proud of me

LUCKY IN LOVE
Words and Music by William T. Bonnell

I’m walkin’ in the rain
On a bloomin’ brisk spring day
Lookin’ for a castle to play
Whichever way the wind blows
I was saved by the rain
On a hot steamin’ summer day
Lookin’ for a rainbow to paint
And steppin’ on my shadow
We are so in love
So lucky in love
I’m walkin’ in the rain
Along the colors of a crisp fall day
Lookin’ for the moon to stay
Chasin’ shadows after you
I was saved by the rain
With the hope of a warm winters day
Lookin’ for the sun to break
Reflecting both our shadows
We are so in love
So lucky in love
We are so in love
So lucky in love
I’m walkin’ in the rain
With you beside me on everyday
Leanin’ on your shoulder to pray
Whichever way the wind blows
Whichever way the wind blows
Whichever way the wind blows

AMERICA (Where’d you go)
Words and Music by William T. Bonnell

America
Where’d you go now
Everything
Seems the same now
If only we knew then
What we know now
Save what we can
For our children now
Build your love around me
Your love around me
Wrap your love around me
Your love around me
If you feel a push
It’s from me now
You can’t run from time
Nowhere to hide now
Erase that scene
From your head now
‘Cause I’m the one
To build your love now
Please take me home
America
Please take me home
America
I’m here
To take you home now
Beyond these gates
To the streets now
Back to the soil
You belong now
To America
On your feet now
Please take me home
America
Oh take me home
America
Where’d you go
America
Where’d you go
Where’d you go
America
Where’d you go

THE EXPLORER
Words and Music by WIlliam T. Bonnell

How far from home
How far from home
How far from home
I’ve sailed the world searching for treasures of gold
And I sing my song with all of its toil and toll
Adrift out at sea and I’m unclear which way to go
I’ve sailed the world but I’m afraid I’ve lost my soul
How far from home
How far from home
How far from home
I’ve sailed the world searching for fortune and fame
A disregard for life is why now I float here in shame
Wipe the blood from my sword for I am the one to blame
I’ve sailed the world to a land that now bears my name
I’ve sailed the world looking for my ladylove
To distant shores with the guidance from the good lord above
I’m drifting off the edge and I can’t seem to be released
I’ve sailed the world but now I sail towards peace
I’ve sailed the world
I’ve sailed the world
How far from home

DUST
Words and Music by William T. Bonnell

Remember that you are dust
And to the dust you’ll return
Come back to me with all your heart
Leave the past let it burn
Come back to me with all your faith
Let it go don’t be scared
Remember that you are dust
And to the dust you’ll return
I can see you now with your open arms
Your ashes and your tears
Come back to me with all your hope
Let it go I’ll forgive
Remember that you are dust
And to the dust you’ll return

MY OLD FRIEND
Words and Music by William T. Bonnell

My old friend keeps dancin’ in my head
I still see you sittin’ on those steps
While I stare from my window sill
It’s my heart that you begin to fill
That you fill, that you fill
Those lazy days how we would play
Skippin’ stones jumpin’ in the lake
How long could we hold our breath
Racin’ down that sidewalk cheatin’ death
Cheatin’ death, cheatin’ death
It’s the middle of the night – I see your glow
I reach to touch the light – It sparks my soul
I’ve seen this dream before – this isn’t the end
It’s only the beginning – my old friend
A broken swing hangs from a branch
My banged up bike stuck in the mud
All those secrets that we would share
Me to you, you to me, truth or dare
Truth or dare, truth or dare
I’d chase you to the top of that old tree
Those days now few and far between
Lord are you cruel or kind
Stealin’ youth, stealin’ all our time
All our time, all our time
It’s the middle of the night – I see your glow
I reach to touch the light – it sparks my soul
I’ve seen this dream before – this isn’t the end
It’s only the beginning – my old friend
The real world would call our name
It was time to go out on our own
Like the water we were born again
Never knew what laid around that bend
Around that bend, around that bend
With passing time our memories fade
Can’t remember how to feel our pain
Cross my heart we’ll never die
We’ll live forever in those angel’s eyes
Those angel’s eyes, those angel’s eyes
Take me back to the night – that soft summer glow
Merry-go-round and lights – that filled our souls
We lived this dream before – this isn’t the end
It’s only the beginning – my old friend

HOUSE OF CARDS
Words and Music by William T. Bonnell and Paul Howard

Let’s not forget those sunny days
We thought Billy was the ace to play
Full of life and full of hope
Back when his life was not a joke
Billy built himself a house of cards
It seemed like nobody could knock’em down
Then one day he let the Joker in
He started playin’ with the devil of sin
And that’s when his troubles first began
He’d always have some pills in his hand
Oh that’s when his troubles truly began
His life was totally out of his hands
That’s when his dreams came fallin’ down
His house of cards came tumblin’ down
Crashin’ down
Down, down, down
All over him
Billy certainly had all the friends
Like one-eyed Jack who wouldn’t bend
The queen of hearts ran to his side
All she heard were his hurtful lies
They dragged Billy before the throne
The king sent him off to be alone
Down to the dungeon for one whole year
Locked up with all his addictions and fears
And that’s when his troubles first began
He’d always have a needle in his hand
Oh that’s when his troubles truly began
His life was totally out of his hands
That’s when his dreams came fallin’ down
His house of cards came tumblin’ down
Crashin’ down
Down, down, down
All over him
One night Billy picked up a rope
He couldn’t take it he just couldn’t cope
Billy talked the Joker up on a stool
He could no longer play the fool
Billy snapped and kicked out the chair
The Joker swung with a deep dark stare
Fifty-two cards fell to the floor
Billy was saved the Joker was no more
And that’s when his life really began
Now he holds a prayer in his hand
Oh that’s when his life truly began
He took his own life back in his hands
If you build yourself a House of Cards
Don’t let the Joker knock’em all down
Crash’em down
Down, down, down
All over you

STEAL YOU AWAY
Words and Music by William T. Bonnell

Woke up this mornin’ to an empty bed
You must be with our children again
I get up and turn on the shower
Never seems to be enough hot water
Smell you cookin’ breakfast downstairs
The kids are yellin’ as I comb my hair
I leave for work you kiss my cheek
It seems like we’re growing apart
Apart from each other
Baby, I know you spend all your time
Bein’ a mother
I’m gonna have to steal you away
Remake you my lover
Woke up this mornin’ in another hotel bed
Wouldn’t you know it, I’m on the road again
Why don’t you convince your parents
Watch the kids you come meet me in Paris
Pick up my cell to give you a call
The signal fades I can’t hear you anymore
Why we didn’t get a chance to speak
It seems like we’re drifting away
Away from each other
Baby, I know bein’ half way around the world
Doesn’t really give you comfort
When I get home I’m gonna steal you away
Remake you my lover
Steal you away, steal you away
Woke up this mornin’ and you’re right by my side
I’m gonna hold you in my arms ‘till I die
You’re the woman that I cherish and love
What a lover and a mother you’ve become
The kids promised to bring us breakfast in bed
And they’ll behave at least that’s what they said
Whisper softly please tell me you hear
We gotta start takin’ the time
The time for each other
Baby, we gotta start livin’ our lives
Like there’s no tomorrow
I’m gonna have to steal you away
Remake you my Lover
Steal you away, steal you away
Love you ‘till the sun don’t rise
Love you my lover
Love you ‘till the end of time
Love you forever
I’m gonna have to steal you away
Remake you my lover

RUN IROQUOIS RUN
Words and Music by William T. Bonnell

Oh great spirit take me home now
Oh great spirit take me home
Oh great spirit take me home now
To the longhouse I once knew
Lift me up to the sky now
Lift me up to the blue
Lift me up into the air now
Raise up my canoe
Once upon a time
Lived a man of few tears
Wore the black hand
And was a man to fear
Deer would dance
The day he was born
Up and down the hills
Across fields of corn
The mourning dove sang
For those who’ve passed
Ninety three days
Did the summer last
For the Iroquois
They called them
Romans of the west
People of the longhouse
The proudest the best
The Iroquois
One band of brothers
Five nations strong
Unite the alliance
Together they belonged
The Iroquois
“The Mohawk” lived
Beneath the great tree
Whose roots sank deep
Born to be free
“The Oneida” found
The standing stone
It couldn’t be moved
It wouldn’t be thrown
“The Onondaga” kept
The council fire
Hiawatha’s words
Did this inspire
For the Iroquois
They called them
Romans of the west
People of the longhouse
The bravest the best
The Iroquois
One band of brothers
Five nations strong
Holder of the heavens
Together they belonged
The Iroquois
“The Cayuga” ruled
The fingered lake
They'd split in two
But they'd never break
"The Seneca" watched
The western gate
But from the south
Held the nations fate
And all because
They weren't on our side
We'd go ahead
And strip the pride
Of The Iroquois
Washington's men
Are marchin' your way
They'll show no mercy
And they plan to stay
So fight Iroquois
Fight for your family
And fight for this land
The graves of your fathers
Depend on your stand
So fight Iroquois fight
Now, the history books
Haven't been very kind
To a people now
We can barley find
Their legend told
is hard to ignore
A schoolboy's dream
He so adored
Listen, quiet - you can
Hear their cries
Look what we've done
Open your eyes
To the Iroquois
So run to the forest
And find the great tree
Follow your roots
And break yourself free
So run Iroquois
See the seven stars
And look up fast
Wake up the ghosts
Remember the past
So run Iroquois run
Once upon a time
Lived a man of few tears
He wore the black hand
And was a man to fear
The Iroquois
Oh great spirit take me home now
Oh great spirit take me home
Oh great spirit take me home now
To the longhouse I once knew
Lift me up to the sky now
Lift me up to the blue
Lift me up into the air now
Raise up my canoe

PEACE OF MIND
Words and Music by William T. Bonnell

It’s nice to have nothin’ to do
Nothin’ but to be with you
It’s the simple things in life
It’s the simple things that I like
You give me peace of mind
Oh, the peace of mind that I need
To make it through my day
Oh, baby come show me the way
You give me peace of mind
Oh, peace of mind
I’ve got no place to go
All the time in the world to take it slow
Come help me change my plans
Reach out baby come take my hand
You give me peace of mind
Oh, the peace of mind that I need
To make it through my day
Oh, baby come show me the way
No worries on my mind
Not a worry can I find
If only that feelin’ could stay
Life can be such a heavy weight
You give me peace of mind
Oh, the peace of mind that I need
To make it through my day
Oh, baby come show me the way
You give me peace of mind
Oh, peace of mind
You give me peace of mind
I need peace of mind

WHAT IF
Words and Music by William T. Bonnell

What if I swam too far from shore
If I swam out too far to get back
Tell me would you swim after me
Try to pull me back to you
Doesn’t anyone stay together anymore
Is the grass greener on the other side
Is it our senseless stand for pride
Doesn’t anyone stay together anymore
What if I turned and couldn’t see land
If I turned around, gave up, and sank
Tell me would you dive in after me
Try to lift me up to you
Doesn’t anyone stay in love anymore
Whatever happened to “Thick and Thin”
Is it our senseless need to win
Doesn’t anyone stay in love anymore
What if I was lost -- swept away
If I was lost and ripped apart
Would you come lookin’ for me
Gather my pieces back to you
I wanna believe in forever more
Can’t we make our love stay
Baby, we need to find a way
I wanna believe in forever more

just awesome
i cannot believe what a pleasant surprise this album is! great lyrics and so many meaningful songs. I was turned onto the album by a friend and i can't stop listening to it.
I see a big future with The Bill Bonnell band. The songs America,Oh father and The Explorer were my favorites - hard to say when I have enjoyed a band as much as this one. I highly recommend checking this one out - trust me.
