by Boys Called Susan & Bryan Russo

The debut from two first cousins is a timely album that critics say "captures the true essence of Americana music." Sounds like the Everly Brothers and Bob Dylan getting 'Exiled on Main Street' with a copy of JD Vance's "Hillbilly Elegy.

Album Notes
Boys Called Susan started with a wonderful woman's dying wish. That wish brought together two cousins, thousands of miles apart, to take years of grief, struggle, depression, and hard truths about our ever changing society to create that a collection of phone demos that caught the ear of one of Nashville's most respected players and producers.

Their debut album 'Pennsyltucky', "truly captures the essence of Americana music", according to Bruce Warren, Asst. Manager of Programming at WXPN 88.5 FM in Philadlephia and Executive Producer of World Cafe' on NPR music. "The album is warmly produced, the performances are impeccably played, and there’s a handful of standout songs including “Degrees of Misery,” ”Heaven Knows,” “Rodeo Cool,” and “Unfinished Symphony.”"

First cousins Bryan Russo and Christopher Shearer formed the group in memory of Susan Knudson (Chris' mother and Bryan's aunt), who passed away after a long battle with cancer in 2013.

It was one of her final wishes for the two to make music together.

This album is not just a fulfillment of that promise, it's a timely piece of American music that aims to sound timeless.

What started as phone demos bounced across thousands of miles in the middle of the night, has become an unlikely "underdog" story that saw the "Boys" invited to Nashville to record their debut record with a remarkable cast of characters including acclaimed producer Phil Madeira and members of Emmylou Harris' Red Dirt Boys at the famous Butcher Shoppe Recording Studio.

Bryan Russo is an acclaimed singer/songwriter who has shared the stage with more than 30 national recording artists and is multi-award winning journalist (including 2 Edward R. Murrow awards) and composer based in Maryland. He's released four independent albums.

Christopher Shearer is an Emmy-award winning composer, producer and musician based in Arizona who has worked in many facets of the music industry over the years, from audio engineer to multi-instrumentalist.
