Album Notes
Evidence of Things to Come includes 10 original Hogans’ compositions. A number of sought-after musicians join Hogans on the disc, including pianist Aaron Goldberg, drummer Obed Calvaire and bassist Luques Curtis, who also played on Brian Lynch’s Grammy-winning Simpatico recording. Curtis also frequently performs with the Sean Jones Quintet. Also featured are Alex Wintz on guitar, vocalist Tammy Scheffer and harpist Brandee Younger.

Many of the songs on Evidence of Things to Come are feats of musical exploration, allowing Hogans free rein with his solos and improvisations. These carefully crafted pieces bring together multiple instrumentalists, taking advantage of different timbres to create a sonic richness. The title track starts with a silky saxophone sound echoed by guitar, slowly building into a Hogans’ meditative solo. Another track, “Mind Tricks”, highlights a piano undertone paired with a spirited melodic line. “Cloud Nine”, the last track, is a three-movement suite exploring obsession, inward struggle and resolution. Hogans shows in this track that he can embrace electronic instruments as well, creating a synthesized string presence which helps showcase his journey into mood and conflict.

The compositions and impressive musicality displayed on the disc are proof that Hogans is one of the most exciting young players on the scene today, and that for him, there truly are some spectacular things to come.

Really enjoying the cd. Caught Brian live in D.C., so had to check out the music as leader.
