Natural Selection

by Frank Gambale

The second outstanding album from Gambale's latest group and following up his last release Natural High. For lovers of acoustic instruments resonating with virtuosity without drums clouding the picture, this album swings and it's funky too. 5 stars *****

Album Notes
With pianist Otmaro Ruiz, a master improviser and Alain Caron, one-of-a-kind bassist, these three sound like ten. There are beautiful, subtle ballads to Brazillian influenced tracks and Gambale once again rewrites some Jazz standards with his own melodies. A great artist in a very mature place in his career. Outstanding!

Mr. Fuse

Real good album that displays virtuosity!!
This album is much more jazz oriented then what Frank usually does. To me this really demonstrates his virtuoso skills. It really is more of an "artsy", "jazzy" kind of a feel. This album really isn't jazz fusion; it seems to almost be bebop or straight ahead jazz. A really cool song is Tone For Chick's Bones, which probably is titled in regard to the great pianinst Chick Corea.
