ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
en mi mente has been produced over the last 5 years. Gareth is not only an accomplished composer and guitarist, but a fairly busy audio engineer and guitar technician who's touring life takes him to most of the continents and back on a regular basis. There was a lull in the traveling sect of his life for the last 3 months and he was able to take advantage of the time and complete this record.
Why an actual cd in these times?
OK! 3 reasons!
1 Gareth is in his 40s
2 He felt as though the music deserved an uncompressed format for his contemporaries to enjoy in their vehicles and Hi Fi's.
3 the format of mp3 doesnt allow for a track to flow into another track. For example, when you buy the 10 mp3s and download them and listen to all 10 songs 1 through 10 from start to finish, there will be a small pause, a second or two of silence between the tracks as whatever mp3 player acquires the digital data that comprises the next song before playback starts.
This is not the case with a cd of wav files. track 1 flows into track 2 into 3 into 4 etc. In fact, Gareth created transitions between each track that can only be found on the cd format, for that very reason. The record has great individual tracks, but when listened to from top to bottom it has the capability to take its listener on a journey out of their own headspace for a spell.

A bit on the music

alien beach dance

These drums were recorded at LALA Land studios in Louisville Kentucky (hence the big drum sounds). Gareth was hired by the american rock band Murder by Death to tech their stringed instruments for their latest album "the other shore". En Lieu of traditional payment, he was able to barter for the live drum performance of Dagan Thogerson, who simply brought the track to life.

Mac 2 Step.
Its not salsa. Its not merengue. It is a song however that matches the energy level of the daughter of a friend of Gareth's. His composition is sort of designed to help run the energy level back down to an acceptable "inside" level...whatever that is for a 3 year old. She calls him "garriage".
Louisville's Lovejones's trumpet chopmeister, Ryan Nottingham layed down the trumpet sections and crushed the solos.

CancionAmor
This is Gareth's interpretation of the Cure's Lovesong from their '89 release, "disintegration". The bass line was recorded by Chris Fitzgerald, professor of Jazz at the University of Louisville. There was moment when chris's wedding band made contact with the fingerboard. It's percussive and right in time with the groove. Jones felt it supported the original lyrical content, as the sound was produced by an object of love and it made the track...

Gareth plays several instruments on the record. 2 cordoba flamencos. One of flamed maple and the other, the Solista blanca, of cypress. There is a hand made indian rosewood (una negra) flamenco also featured, built by Miguel Angel Lopez in Granada Spain. Gareth tried 6 instruments all from different luthiers on his last trip to Granada. This one spoke to him as he hopes it will speak to you. The rhythm guitar tracks were recorded through a pair of rodes NT5s through focusrite preamps. the main guitars were recorded by Jones's go to engineer, Adam Koestel through an Earthworks SR25, and a Neumann U87 preamped with avalon.
