Album Notes
Recorded in July 2009 in London with a great band featuring Greg Lyons on tenor and soprano saxes, Pierre De Bethmann on piano and Rhodes, Dudley Phillips on electric and acoustic bass, Nic France on drums and John Parricelli on guitar.
5 of the compositions were written specifically for the album with 4 more favourites from recent live performances and one arrangement of a great Beatles song from the album Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.
The title refers to the dilemmas of communication: culture to culture, gender to gender, musician to audience etc. The album hopes to offer an example of music as a universal language that cuts below our differences and unites us.
The CD was produced through the support of fans and sponsors who bought shares in it before it was produced.

Greg Lyons comes Full Circle; "Smoke Signals" is Built to Last
I really enjoyed this album - especially the title track, "Elbow Room", "Built to Last", "Full Circle", "Fast Twitch" ... everything's awesome. These musicians are really admirable - I've had the pleasure of watching Greg live in Singapore, it's always a great show, but Greg is really in his element with these cats. As a bassist, I dug Dudley Phillips - his tone & playing is fantastic - and the pianist really caught my ear on "Built to Last" & "Get Real" - loved those sneaky rhodes.
Perhaps I'm overthinking this, but I like how "Blues for Obama" begins somewhat jittery, before the arrival of a 'cool customer' - and are those hints of Slendro in his walk? And then the tune ends calmer and unified. Nice...
On the whole, great compositions, soloing and top notch production - a worthwhile buy for any jazz lover.

Really Great!
This Album is really great! There is an amazing group of musician around Greg. The original compositions make it something really special. If you have followed Greg evolution for the past 10 years as I have, you will find there the sound and atmosphere you like. This album has been long prepared and recorded within the most professional conditions and no detail has been left aside. The result is just amazing: I can't stop listening to it. Great Stuff!!!
