ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Here is Letro B Retro, a collection of actual 60's tunes revisited and original tunes by Hal and Georgie Singer deep in the 60's genre. Letro B Retro comes on the heels of the release of the single "The Beatles On The Train In A Hard Days Night" by Hal L Singer and the Sixties Sensation which is included in this album. A special thank you goes out to Joe Lepore, drums and percussion, and Scott Webb on saxophone. The album opens up with a fresh take on Herman's Hermits, Mrs. Brown( you've got a lovely daughter), done in a style half way between the way Peter Noone and the boys did I'm Henry V111, I am, and The Clash. Paul Snyder of "The Sixties Sensation" is on bass guitar. The second tune on the album "Oh Lord", Hal actually wrote when he was 8 years old, and is presented here almost exactly as originally written. The third track is a heavier take on Burt
Bacharach's "This Guy's In Love With You", complete with a saxophone, and a Bad Company type rhythm section. Then comes Georgie singing "GIve Me Another Kiss" a song written by us in the style of Diana Ross and the Supremes (think "Baby Love" and "Come See About Me") and their wonderful string of number ones from the mid sixties. Next is "Back In The Water" a Beach Boy's send up, with full rich Beach Boy harmony and references to PCH, and a bridge that recalls Jan and Dean's "Ride The Wild Surf." Marty Correia is the drummer on "Back In The Water" and "Give Me Another Kiss." " What's It To Ya" is a throw-back to the Drifter's Under The Boardwalk" from 1964. " B.S., I Love You" co-written by Jon Elefante and Hal L. Singer, is a former Billboard Magazine recommended single, and the version presented here was released in the mid eighties in Europe on an American Rockabilly album, put out by the Psychobilly label Nervous Records in the U K. Mark Clark is on drums and John Hutson is playing the guitar solo. B.S., I Love You was produced by Neil Citron. Next comes a rock and roll take on The Supremes "Stop In The Name Of Love". Supremes fans may enjoy a different gender perspective on what was one of the Supremes biggest hits. Then for some light, relaxing mood change, Mr. Sandman is an instrumental recording of the hit by the Chordettes, with obvious nods to Chet Atkins. Pride and Joy is the Marvin Gaye hit from 1964 which is notable as the song the Beatles kept requesting be played on New York radio stations on their first visit to the United States in 1964. (We know George Harrison came over in 1963!) "Buy Me A Banana" is WAY retro! We thought it was going to be a 1940's Andrews Sisters romp, instead it is a 1920's style ragtime tune, fit to do the Charleston to. Complete with depression lyrics, this is the "When I'm 64" of our Letro album!
Next is the aforementioned "The Beatles On The Train In A Hard Day's Night", performed by Hal's Las Vegas 60's tribute band, "The Sixties Sensation." Hal and Henry Mateus co-sing the lead, with Paul Snyder adding more harmony as well as playing bass on the track. Freddy Flores is on drums. Please give it a listen. Complete with 12 string guitar, harmonica lead lines, and a bridge right out of "And I Love Her", it owes alot to" From Me To You" and" A Hard Day's Night" itself. You will feel a part of the movie in song. Next is a short reprise of Mrs. Brown, done in it's original style.
The album closes out with the sentiment we wanted to leave you with. "I'll Never Find Another You" written by Dusty Springfield's brother, Tom, who also wrote "Georgie Girl" for the Seekers. It is presented here in a little more rock style than the folk styleings of the original, but we do want to thank you all for listening to our music and making it a part of your day. Enjoy!
