This is Exciting

by Hot Knives

Equal part '78 NYC and '83 LA, this is kick-ass hard rock by a double denim power trio. If you drive with the lights out, jump the fence to get in and know for sure you're gonna score before dawn - these are your jams.

Album Notes
The first time Hot Knives landed in the rehearsal studio it was like a classic metal bomb went off. Jeff Miller, Joe Sharrino and Chris Farrell made 'This is Exciting' surrounded by piles of vintage vinyl and stacks of Hit Parader, Circus and Kerrang! Overheard celebrating with another round of whiskey, the band is happy.

Offering up a toast, somebody says, "...we didn't have to think about it, we are fairly hard to clean that way - when a riff feels right, it is right - salut!"

The tracks on the debut album 'This is Exciting' are clearly fueled by rock inebriation, induced by bands like Sabbath, KISS, RUSH, Motley Crue and Van Halen. It takes decades of vinyl, leather, shows, magazines, cars, parties and basement jams to make this kind of record possible.

"...we weren't trying to invent anything, well...maybe a license to try-this-at-home," one of them laughs, grabs a beer, and air bottle-neck-slides to the Hendrix solo firing out of the club speakers.

Co-produced by long time friend Chuck Pukmel, the lyrics and arrangements on 'This is Exciting' are a group effort. Guitarist/Singer Jeff Miller's arena-power vocals and Ace Frehely fret-work deliver these tracks like Dave Meniketti giving a Creature Double Feature play-by-play, while drummer Joe Sharrino (El Camino) tears up his kit with a Charlie Watts on acid panache, leaving bassist Chris Farrell to smash it together as if something went very wrong in the lab today.

As easy as they make it feel, it couldn't have been all guns and roses. Knocking back a shot, questions start to flare, "...yeah, but how many times did we re-write Shiver You Shake? Three? Four? Why's her rabbit itchin' anyway? You gonna eat that? What do we do with this thing?"

Whatever they do with it, 'This is Exciting' is a potent reflection of the classic hard rock & metal era; a recipe for cocksure pickup lines, tailgate parties, staying up all night, and waking up under some chic's leather feeling terribly weird and ragingly psyched about life.

This is the real thing
They just don't make it like this anymore. This is what it sounds like when a band plays in a room together, without studio crutches, without a net. There is fire in this music. As rocking as anything you'll hear this year.
