Album Notes
Since returning from touring Europe at the end of 2009 where Ike also shot the music video for STARRY NIGHT (youtube) he has now completed his 8th studio album entitled ‘Blue Moon’. The album contains 16 smooth & jazzy crooners/torch songs from well known hits like ‘What a Wonderful World’, ‘Besame Mucho’ and ‘Summertime’ to jazzy adaptions of John Lennon’s ‘Nowhere Man’, Elvis Presley’s ‘Blue Moon’ and Dean Martin’s ‘Mean To Me’. It ends with a bonus track, namely Ike’s version of the famous James Bond movie title hit song ‘From Russia With Love’. Like on his previous Jazz/Swing albums Ike has once again recorded with multitalented SA navy big band leader Willie van Zyl (saxophones, clarinet) and UK pianist/arranger A.McPike.
Ike is drawing from his early Jazz studies in Holland & Germany to bring you this feast of gems from the Crooner/Jazz & Swing songbook. The Capetonian has received wide acclaim for his previous 7 albums 'Stardust Trilogy', 'Starry Night', ‘All Around the World’, ‘Mirrors & Shade’ and ‘Play Me’ and his original songs were played in 17 countries worldwide. Ike has also acted in many major feature films such as ‘Alfie’, ‘Shanghai Knights’ and ‘Love Actually’, while also appearing in local TV programs like TOP BILLING & BACKSTAGE, as well as UK TV series ‘Eastenders’, ‘Family Affairs’ and ‘The Bill’ et al. Rock legend David Bowie himself voted Ike’s songs as top song of the month on his web site! ‘South Africa’s own indie pop idol’ (The Citizen, Cape Argus) studied music and acting in South Africa, Germany and Holland after a jet-setting childhood. The singer, actor, producer and songwriter spent 5 years in London, fronting rock bands, performing in musicals and running his own label Mosquito Records London, before returning to his favorite country SA. His songs have taken the SA radio charts by storm while his music videos rock SA TV channels with FHM super model Lisa-Marie Schneider in the lead. In the US, Ike was described as “Bowie without the glam meets Oasis without the self-importance teamed with UK chart alternative without the boredom”. Ike is currently working on his 9th studio album 'Breathing Dreams' which will be his original song material from the Rock/Pop/Indie genre. For further information visit www.ikemoriz.com

intriguing collection of easy listening styles
Ike Moriz - Blue Moon (Mosquito Records London)
A genuine all-round entertainer, Moriz has acted in various feature films ("Love Actually", "Alfie", "Shanghai Knights", etc.), became a regular on TV screens ("Eastenders", "The Bill", etc.) and has released a series of albums in various genres. David Bowie is a fan.

Blue Moon was his eighth studio album, originally released in 2010, and it's an intriguing collection of easy listening styles, with attention-grabbing arrangements and a fascinating selection on songs. It's an advantage Moriz holds over great singers of the `40s, `50s and `60s, there's been an awful lot of great pop music written since their heyday, and there's no reason why some of those songs can't be adapted to swing and jazz. Which isn't to say that Moriz ignores the classics, but it does allow for fine versions of The Beatles "Nowhere Man" or Rodgers and Hart's "Blue Moon", a song which dates back to the first half of the century, but was made famous by Elvis.

He sings a cluster of songs many will know from movies; "What A Wonderful World" is measured and unhurried, and floats gently from the speakers. "Blue Velvet" becomes a love song again, with pianist / arranger A.McPike doing some sterling work. "From Russia With Love" was the theme to the Bond film of the same name (written by Lionel Bart and sung on the soundtrack by Matt Monro), and here Moriz sticks close to the source while band-leader Willie van Zyl does some wonderful stuff with strings and things.

"Blue Moon is an amazing gaze into the mind of a musical genius whose appreciation for great jazz music seems to know no bounds."

On this album, Blue Moon, Ike Moriz takes a more ‘retro swing’ route that leads straight to the doorstep of the listener's heart.  Released in 2010, Blue Moon is an amazing gaze into the mind of a musical genius whose appreciation for great jazz music, seems to know no bounds.  There is truly strength in numbers when it comes to music, and on this project Ike gives us 16 great songs to enjoy.

"I Can't Believe That You're In Love With Me" is just one of the 16 incredible tracks on
this CD just bursting with swing jazz piano and upright bass.  Written by legendary
songwriters, Clarence Gaskill and Jimmy McHugh, this song was one of the many great
tunes sung by great artists of the swing era, like Louis Armstrong, Count Basie and Billie Holiday.  Ike Moriz, again, brings another jazz classic to blossom with his signature baritone voice and his powerful and confident delivery. I'd recommend checking it out as Ike really brings this song to life.

The classic "What A Wonderful World" is a longtime favorite of mine and I was very
pleased to hear Ike doing the song a great deal of justice. If you've been around long
enough you know this song and I don't have to tell you how wonderful it is. To hear it
delivered in such a modern and respectable way really made my day.

Blue Moon is a top of the line jazz album that is worthy of all the support in the world. I
can't imagine that Ike just randomly chooses great songs to cover and release. When
you put this many classic tunes on one project it was clearly a well calculated move and
Ike Moriz got the right answer to the equation.
