Warm, contemporary folk. Heart centered, heliotropic, organic. Layered with complex overtones of elegant pop, velvety jazz, opulent latin, and just a hint of chocolate.

So heart warming are these lyrics--and the tunes so gentle to the soul. You are taken on a journey of emotions, like light through a prism. You will see a piece of yourself shining back!

I first heard James May a few years back at a performance in Big Sur, California.  I was immediately struck by the warmth of his music -- from his honest and heartfelt lyrics to his intriguingly haunting melodies. Now, with the release of his first solo album: “A thousand Shining Pieces,” I am reminded about just what it was that drew me to him and his music.

I strongly recommend James and this album to all who appreciate songs not only about love and loss, but also about hope, happiness, courage, determination and ultimately,  the celebration of life. On my first listening, I felt my shoulders relax and my heart open-up. By my third, I was singing along. My favorite track so far is “ Truth Garden” and my head is already beginning to sway back and forth as I imagine its easy rhythms.
