Album Notes
"Whatever happened to the Swing revival? It’s here. King Teddy stir it up, shake it up, and put the swing back where it belongs. A combination of ‘50s rockabilly, big band rock ‘n’ roll and jazz, you’d never accuse King Teddy of being cutting edge, but if you want to party, have some fun, and break a sweat on the dance floor, it’s their CD you’ll be reaching for. They finish up with a Beatles tune (“I Will”), but apart from that it’s all their own work. If you get the chance, have a listen. Hopefully you’ll be just as bowled over as I am." --Simon M., Leicester Bangs online magazine

Packed with 15 great songs, the album features bouncy swing numbers, rockabilly rave ups, smooth ballads and a few surprises. Quite a lot for one "compact" disc, eh? Nothing too serious here (though love can be a pretty weighty topic), our aim is to produce fun, danceable, toe tap-able, sing along-able, what-is-that-song-that's-stuck-in-my head music. All but one is an original composition. We couldn't help ourselves, we just had to slip in a Beatles tune at the end.

Vocalist Mike Sottong has been nominated for a "Wammie" award the last five years by the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA). The band has also been nominated in the swing/big band category since 2004. In 2008 King Teddy was named Best of Fairfax for band/musician by the Fairfax [VA] Times.

Sheer Joy
Sheer joy is what it's like to dance to this music...
'Stirred and Shaken' evokes another era, yet strikes a contemporary chord. You can't help but snap your fingers and jump in your seat! For dancers, the uptempo tunes are nothing short of fabulous! King Teddy is always fun, but this CD also has some lovely, haunting, melodies, and interesting lyrics.

A throwback to an era when the melody mattered!
Whether you're a dancer, a swing fan, or just appreciate good, solid original tunes of any tempo, King Teddy's latest will have something on it for you. It's probably good that the "swing revival" of the late 90s is long gone, so the poseurs and pretenders can move on to the next fad. These guys, along with obvious influences Brian Setzer and Ray Gelato, are the real deal. If you're looking for more re-treads of familiar swing classics, or warmed-over arrangements with new lyrics ("Gettin' in the Christmas Mood," I'm looking at you), be forewarned--this is all-original, brand new swing and rockabilly material (one exception: a nifty, shuffling take on "I Will" from the White Album). Rare is the band that can play, sing AND write successfully in this genre. Pick this one up and try to catch them live in the D.C. area if you can. Personal faves: "Tina," an island romance fantasy with a smart horn riff and "Earlysville," an edgy, brooding snarler on regret and redemption. As long as King Teddy is around, swing will never die. And as KT themselves proclaim in Buzz Buzz Buzz and Tweedlee Dee, "I'm going to stay and swing until they knock me out." Thank goodness.

Say Something
My favorite has got to be "Say Something", a swingy fun tune that every guy (!) can relate to. But there's lots more on this album: "I Don't Mind" and "Buzz Buzz" are more great swing tunes, and "Intoxicated" is a sultry foray that places one foot into the summer country grass. This band is a good time, and this album captures some of their variety. The closing track, "I Will" reminds us not only how much we loved the Beatles, but how much we love King Teddy. Can't wait for more releases from these guys.

Stirred and Shaken
I love this CD! It is a definite must for any dancer or fun music lover. From upbeat songs with (really) clever lyrics to heartfelt slow-downs, this album will keep you dancing around the house or in the car (keep your eyes on the road and go easy while tapping the gas pedal). Their sound is refreshingly unique, the lead singers are true and the whole band is "on it!" Well worth the $$$ for this CD!!!

Stirred and Shaken
These guys are amazing - great vocals, top notch musicians - and you can tell they have fun making great music. I love these CDs and wish the band would tour Atlanta. I could pack the house!

Great songwriting
"Buzz Buzz Buzz and Tweedleedee" will never leave my frontal lobe. Unless "Intoxicated" pushes it out. Or "Tina" jumps over them both. So glad that there are still songwriters like this churning out the good, old standard brain-burners. Thank you!

Great music!
As always, we love King Teddy. This CD is no exception.

A Modern Pop-Swing Delight
If you can imagine Glenn Tilbrook fronting a 1940’s small-group swing band, you’ll begin to get an idea of what’s in store for you on this impeccably produced collection of tunes from one of the Washington D.C. area’s premier swing bands. With a collection of 14 genial originals by pianist Mike Sottong and guitarist Dan Rivizzigno (plus a charming jump swing cover of The Beatles’ “I Will” that is perfectly suited to Sottong’s dulcet voice), King Teddy confidently moves through swing, rockabilly, doo-wop, jump blues and even a trip to the edges of hipsville. It’s an irrestible toe-tapping and head-nodding affair, with Sottong and Rivizzigno joined by John Rowny behind the traps and Moe Nelson on upright bass, plus D.C. sax mainstay Chris Watling on saxes and tasty horn arrangements (not to mention some special guests). This engaging record was one of the most pleasant surprises of 2010, and it’s an important addition to the modern-day swing catalog.

Music to Smile by
We LOVE, this CD and this band! As swing dancers this SD is a blast to dance to and as DC area residents it is truly happy music to sit in traffic with and keep smiling!

Stirred and Shaken
At our wedding many moons ago my husband hated the "dancing" part and has steadfastly refused to dance lo these 48 years since, until now! Once we put on the "Stirred and Shaken" CD he is more than willing to dance, admittedly slow dancing in the living room, to the beat of these wonderful tunes. There is no way your toe doesn't tap while this music runs its course and when you play it in the car it makes you happy no matter what the traffic or weather. Great sound!
