this IS the jubilee
What I reached for this morning as I woke up was Noah Earle's new record. This Is The Jubilee. And indeed that is the first lyric you hear. I've known Noah for some years now. We were at the Folk Festival in Kerrville. At first I was intimidated by his deft playing and good looks. I felt like I was in the presence of a star so he must have been in my mind. All that quickly dissipated as Noah and I began to talk and joke around. Noah is sharp motherfucker! He'll go toe to toe speaking spanish, or discussing the merits of a higher power. His vocabulary is so large that sometimes I snicker because in a way he is in his own verbose world. But what is most important is the guy is gold. He is gold people. He cares deeply about living a good life and it shows. This album makes me happy. Its lyrics give me a peace. That is a rare quality in writing a song. Mostly these days I feel like we're all therapists. Except we're paying the patient.
Noah has taken chances moving away from the folk vein. I know this was his most trying and difficult project to date, and it was worth it.
The last time I took stock in a song writing contest Noah was a finalist. He lost. But something we all gained was go out make great music, do your best. I've come to doubt that the taste makers have taste. No taste buds. No ear buds. Ultimately it's our choice that matters and I choose this album morning after morning.

So I ask you to support Noah, his wife Jen, and his son Gus. I ask you to support a guy who gardens, is a birder, and who once shaved lines in his eyebrows. Buy this album.
