Album Notes
The so-called lounge genre of the last ten or fifteen years essentially brought the relaxed cocktail hour vibe of the 1950s into the 21st Century. What small, purely acoustic jazz combos or pop orchestras did to give soundtrack to martini-wielding hipsters then, modern lounge – more electric and synthetic - does for the same crowd today. Federal Inspection Service capitalizes on the easy, confident sounds of modern lounge to revisit not only the Fifties but forms of music rooted even further in the past.

Jazz and retro-pop sensibilities abound on FIS, most notably in “Do It Now,” with freewheeling piano riffs and a lush string backing that conjures memories of Mantovani’s infamously soupy arrangements. “Smoking,” though more upbeat and poppy on the surface, relies on Baroque instrumentation and phrasing to add weight to the less than bright lyrics. And “Lacridazica” unapologetically sends-up venerable themes from Mozart, Vivaldi and Bach, by pitting them against a catchy rhythm and vocalese that falls dangerously shy of camp.

FIS is the first full-length album by Oimoi, which continues to release works via several media outlets.

Enchanting, groovy music
I gave this CD five stars for originality and craftsmanship. It's an original sonic experience rooted in jazz with some classical, hip-hop, world, RnB/Soul, electronica, and even disco mixed in. Every track is perfectly constructed and gives you so much to enjoy: expressive harmonies, ear-catching grooves, soothing melodies, and a wide range of instruments and timbres to delight the ear. Every track tells a unique story and stimulates the imagination in an enchanting way. I really enjoyed the values motivating this music, too. Oimoi combines lots of styles, but not just to "make a statement." His choices are always tasteful and everything is done for the sole purpose of making great sounding music.
