Ragtime Tricks
Walking out to the car, I checked the mailbox and found "Ragtime Tricks" had just arrived!! I popped it into the car's CD player, and had to smile, smile, smile, all the way into town. The re-recording is so worthwhile. Stephanie has taken some of my favorite numbers and added even more flourishes and embellishments. I don't know how she does it, but I luv it. Track 6 (Maple Leaf Rag) blew me away when I heard it. I thought, Oh yeah, I know this one inside and out. And then 1/3 of the way through -- BAM! -- Stephanie cuts loose. I feel party to an inside secret. "You think you know the Maple Leaf Rag, well, just wait!!!" It's kind of like material limitations getting pushed aside.
